No.42 (Thomas Tallis) "O sacrum conuiuium"

The name Talis appears in two ways. One is in Mus-987.

The other is with titles in Mus-986 and Mus-988. This has appeared in other places.

”Tallisius was an old man worthy of great honor.”

A more detailed format appears in Mus-987.

The upper part translates as.

"Tallisius, an old man worthy of great honor, lived under four illustrious kings."

Tallis was born in 1505 and died in 1585, so the four kings are Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I.

The lower section is a continuation of this process.

"Under whom Tallis was always the first glory to be regarded as an excellent musician."

You can see that Dow values Bird and Tallis quite highly. This was not only his but also the general assessment at the time.

bar1-12 : O sacrum convivium, in quo Christus sumitur;

bar12-25 : recolitur memoria passionis ejus;

bar25-46 : mens impletur gratia;

bar46-62 : et futurae gloriae nobis pignus datur.
