The Sheep and the Shepherd’s Coat
On a freezing winter morning, a kind shepherd walked slowly through the snowy hills with his flock of sheep. The wind howled through the bare trees, and the white snow made the ground hard to see. The shepherd wrapped his warm wool coat tightly around his body. It was thick, soft, and made from the wool of his own sheep.
The sheep followed behind him. Their feet sank into the snow, and they shivered with every step. One little sheep, named Coco, looked up at the shepherd with sad eyes.
“You always wear a warm coat,” Coco said. “But we have nothing to keep us warm. You take our wool every spring and use it for clothes. Don’t we deserve something too?”
The shepherd stopped walking. He turned around and looked at the tired, cold sheep. They were shaking, their breath white in the cold air. He suddenly felt ashamed.
“You are right, Coco,” he said softly. “I have never thought about how you feel in the winter. I only took your wool and never gave anything back.”
That night, the shepherd sat by the fire in his small cottage. He worked for hours, using soft pieces of leftover wool. He carefully made tiny coats—one for each sheep, with little buttons and colorful patches.
The next morning, the hills were still covered in snow, but something was different. The shepherd came with a big bag. Inside were the tiny coats. One by one, he put them on the sheep.
The sheep were surprised and touched. The warmth from the wool coats spread through their bodies, and their hearts felt full of joy. Coco jumped with happiness.
“Thank you! We feel warm and loved now,” said another sheep, smiling.
From that day on, the shepherd became more thoughtful. He talked to his sheep kindly, gave them extra food in winter, and listened when they needed something. In return, the sheep grew healthy and gave even softer wool.
