The boys cross country team traveled to Oregon this week to compete in the Stayton Invitational and the prestigious Meriwether XC Classic.
The raiders ran the notoriously tough Northwest cross country course at the Stayton Invitational straight from the plane. The course included muddy trails, dense forest, and cold river crossings. The JV boys won their race and the Varsity took 2nd.
The Meriwether XC Classic gathered the best teams from all over Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. The weather and course conditions were perfect for running. Joshua Lerner ‘21 led the team with an impressive 16th place finish.
The team had the privilege to tour the Nike World HQ in Beaverton, OR. The tour around beautiful campus and famed Michael Johnson Track was a special experience for our runners. A big mahalo to Mitzi Yonezawa (Ing, c/o 2000) for giving us the tour!
In Eugene, the University of Oregon tour guides tailored a running tour for the team to suit their interests. The weather was once again beautiful as the boys toured the impeccable facilities at UO and jogged through the renowned Pre’s Trail. The trip was a great team bonding experience for the students and an even better steppingstone toward their championship season coming up in October.
Varsity Football
The varsity football team beat Damien, 38-21, in a crucial ILH showdown on Friday at Aloha Stadium to improve to 4-1 in league play and take a one-game lead over the Monarchs (3-2) in the race to be the lone ILH Division I team to qualify for the HHSAA State Tournament. Both teams have three games remaining in the regular season.
Our Raiders will be back in action on Friday afternoon in the Homecoming game versus Radford, which will kick off on Eddie Hamada Field at 3:15 p.m. That will be followed by the Ho'olaule'a in the Lower Gym at 6 p.m. and the Burning of the "I" at 7:30 p.m. We hope to see you there!
