Do you know the history of the English language? Where did it come from? It has evolved over a long period of time and it was heavily influenced by other languages such as Latin. When I was in Junior High School, we had to choose between Spanish and French. These languages are easy to learn for native English speakers (than for example, Chinese or Japanese)!
My high school offered a course in Latin. Since it was optional, the class was selected by only the brightest students! They say that Latin is a "Dead language". However, Latin influenced English as well as the "Romance" languages!
