In my lessons, I always start simple and ask the students about the date. Many children struggle with the name of each month. This is understandable considering they have to learn 12 words, in order. Many students who only study English once a week often have trouble remembering vocabulary from the previous lesson.
When I worked in a nursery school, I had students who had up to 40 hours a week of exposure to English. Therefore I was able to ask "What is the date today?" EVERYDAY.
Here is a video I used to show my young students. They simply repeated the chant. This video is also good because the teacher can also talk about seasons and holidays throughout the school year.
