Opening Talk
O:Hey, guys. What do you think when you see a crab?
D:Oh, that's easy. I try to think how I can pick it up or catch it.
O:How about you, Roza?
R:I just think how cute it is.
O:Uh-huh.
R:What about you?
R:Hey, everyone. This is Akino Roza.
D:And I'm David Evans.
Today's Dialogue
Jonas and Yayoi
J: Hey, Yayoi, how about going out for lunch today?
Y: I'd love to, Jonas, but I'm busy today.
J: OK. What's up?
Y: The boss told me to write a report about Raj's contributions to our department.
J: Raj? But he left our company a long time ago. Why now?
Y: They want us to keep a record of all the people who have worked here.
J: Sounds kind of strange to me. I don't see the purpose of that.
Y: Anyway, I have to do it.
Lesson Notes
Why now?
I don't see the purpose of that.
Target Forms
Key Sentence
The boss told me to write a report.
Practice
D: All right, today's practice uses the object, 目的語 and to 不定詞, infinitives. Imagine the 'to' is an arrow pointing from the objects to an action. That's a direction. All right, let's try.
R: Repeat after us.
him -> to leave
him -> to leave
I asked him to leave.
I asked him to leave.
D: Good work. Let's keep going.
me -> to pull over
me -> to pull over
The police ordered me to pull over.
The police ordered me to pull over.
R: Keep going.
me -> to join a gym
me -> to join a gym
He convinced me to join a gym.
He convinced me to join a gym.
D: Unlock your potential.
R: Repetition is the key.
D & R: Great work.
Grammar in Action
(1) Bill told me to wait here. He said he'll be a few minutes late.
(2) I asked you to stop. Please don't make me ask agian.
(3) My daughter persuaded me to take her shopping. I'm not good at telling her no.
Ending Talk
O:Hmm, I'm not good at telling her no. Good example. I'm not good at telling poeple no.
R:Hey, sensei. Can you buy me a horse?
D:Ooh, take us out to lunch, would you?
O:I'll give you a definite no.
O, R, and D:Bye.
