オッペンハイマーの生涯におけるハイライトは
マンハッタン計画だった。
それ以前は彼は充実した生活から
はかけ離れていた。精神的に不安定で精神科医にもかかっていた。
マンハッタン計画ではレスリー・グローブ（中将）とうまく行っていたようで
レスリー・グローブはオッペンハイマーを尊敬していたようにさえ見える。
マンハッタン計画が終わると支援者のグローブ将軍はいなくなり
逆にトルーマン大統領はオッペンハイマーを嫌うほどであった。
人間には人生のうちに
剃りの合わない人がいるもので、
特段な理由がなくても嫌われることがあるものだ。
私も人生に何回かあった。
オッペンハイマーはトルーマン大統領におべっかを使わず
トルーマンの前で原爆を否定したものだから決定的だった。
それもあってかオッペンハイマーは赤狩りにあってしまった。
それにしても私にはオッペンハイマーの物理学者としての
マンハッタン計画の功績がわからない。
彼がいなくてもノイマン、フェルミやファイマンをはじめ早々たる
人たちだけで原爆開発はできた。
オッペンハイマーを頭がいいと思っていたのはレスリー・グローブしかいなかったのではないか？
つまりオッペンハイマーが原爆を作ったのではない。
原爆を作ったのは誰かといえば
１、ノイマン（プルトニウム爆発の方程式の考案）
２、フェルミ（原子炉でプルトニウムを作った功績）
３、ファイマン（ノイマンの子分。計算の助手）
