theの品詞は冠詞に決まってるだろう、なんて思っている中高生がほとんどだろう。いや日本ではほぼ100%だろう。だがtheはdeterminerという品詞だというのが正しい。正しい、とまで言い切ると言い過ぎかもしれないが、そう考える立場を取った方が英語力が高くなる。品詞determinersにはArticles以外にPossessives、Demonstratives、Interrogative、Quantifiers、Numbers/Fractions、Distributive、Exclamativeが含まれる。
