Hitherto he had thought it was some fiend fighting him,
but darker suspicions assailed him now.
今までフックは、自分と戦っているのは
悪魔かなんかだと思っていたのですが、
疑念がふつふつと頭をもたげてきました。
"Pan, who and what art thou?" he cried huskily.
「パン、汝、おまえは一体、何者なのだ？」
フックは嗄れ声で叫びました。
"I'm youth, I'm joy,"
Peter answered at a venture,
"I'm a little bird that has broken out of the egg."
「僕は若さ、僕は喜びだ！」
ピーターはでたらめに答えました。
「僕は産まれたての小鳥だよ。」
This, of course, was nonsense; but it was proof to the unhappy Hook
that Peter did not know in the least
who or what he was, which is the very pinnacle of good form.
こんなもの、もちろん何の意味もありません。
でもそれこそが、フックにとっては不幸なことに、
あることの証明になるのでした。
つまりピーターは 自分は"誰"なのか、あるいは"何"なのかを
全く知らない、
それこそが、"礼（グッドフォーム）"の極意なのです。
