スティングの1993年のｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ『Ten Summoner's Tales』から
「Shape of My Heart」を訳します♪
大好きな曲です。
ジャン・レノ演じる心優しき暗殺者、
『レオン』のテーマ曲でしたね
秋の訪れ・・秋の音連れ・・といえば、
私には、このギターのイントロ♪
ドミニク・ミラーのギターですね～
スティングと一緒に、この曲を作った
アルゼンチン生まれの名ギタリストです。
古典を取り入れた『Shapes』という彼のソロアルバムは、
とにかく素晴らしいです！
学究肌の音楽家ですね！
そして、木枯らしのようなスティングの声が、
私の心の 川面を木立を空を 吹き抜けていく。
「Shape of My Heart」を聞くと、
即座に マイケルの「Fall Again」を思い出し、
「Fall Again」を聞くと、
即座に、「Shape of My Heart」を聞きたくなるという、
私、不思議な連鎖反応が発動するのですけれど～(^▽^;)

さて、それはともかく、
スティングの「Shape of My Heart」は、
実際に訳してみると、
彼がインタでも、こう述べているように、
とても哲学的な歌でした。
Shape of My Heart・・Shapeとは、「おぼろげな幻影」
そして、本来、心とは形を持たないもの。
形のないものでありながら、そこに在ると感じるられるもの。
数秘術、占星術、カード占い 宗教、哲学・・
古今東西、人間は、自らの心の形を求めてきました。
Sting from a 1993 promotional interview:
"I wanted to write about a card player, a gambler who gambles not to win but to try and figure out something; to figure out some kind of mystical logic in luck, or chance; some kind of scientific, almost religious law. So this guy's a philosopher, he's not playing for respect and he's not playing for money, he's just trying to figure out the law - there has to be some logic to it. He's a poker player so it's not easy for him to express his emotions, in fact he doesn't express anything, he has a mask, and it's just one mask and it never changes."
「僕はカードプレイヤーについて書きたかったんだ。ギャンブラーは勝つためでなく、何かを探り出すために賭けている；ある種のツキや運の中にある神秘的な論理；ある種の科学的なもの、ほとんど宗教的と言ってよいような法則を理解するために。つまり、この男は哲学者であり、彼は尊敬を得るためにプレイしているのでもなければ、金のためにプレイしているのでもない。彼は、ただ、法則を見出そうとしているんだ。なにかそこに論理があるはずだとね。彼はポーカープレイヤーだから感情を表すことは容易なことではないのさ。実際に彼は表情を表さない。彼は仮面を被っている。そして、それはたった一つの仮面なんだ。それは決して変わらない仮面なのさ。」(和訳・byてん)

*those・・この「those」は、前文の「the cards」を指している。
「彼が切るカードは何の迷いもない」という文は、
後に出てくる「恐れる奴らは負け」という文に対比して関連してゆく。
