湘南辻堂の英語スクール English Ivy School, teacher Rieです。
Last month (July) I and my family went to the Hokuriku area, to stay one week in my husband's hometown.
先月（7月）、夏休暇で北陸地方へ行ってきました。
主人の実家に一週間滞在をしました。
I am originally from Hiroshima, West Japan, and to my hometown we normally go back in the winter time as it sometimes gets harder to arrive to Hokuriku during the snow season.
私自身はもともと西日本・広島の出身ですが、私の実家へは大体冬に帰っており
なぜなら寒い雪のシーズンに北陸へ足を伸ばすのは、天候上難しい時があるから
です。
Toyama prefecture, surrounded by the high mountains (the highest range in Japan called Tateyama), is very rich in water and hence good rice and Sake, also not to mention the delicious fishes from Japan Sea.
立山連峰（日本でも最も高い山の連なり）に囲まれた富山県は、水に恵まれた所で
米やお酒も美味しく、また日本海で揉まれた海の幸は言うまでもありません。
Although the weather is not so good in general/throughout the year (this I think is a little similar to England), the city has less population than those in Kanto so it is fairly easy to walk around in the central even on the weekends.
年間を通してお天気はあまり良くありませんが（こういう点はイギリスと少し似ている・・・）、関東よりも人口が少ないので週末の市内でも比較的歩いて周りやすい
ですね。
There is also a nice canal, and especially these years many attractive buildings and new architectures can be seen due to the operation of
bullet train.
他には景観のよい運河があったり、特にここ数年は北陸新幹線の開通と共に
訪れる人の目を引く建物や素敵な建築がいろいろと見られます。
Then this time luckily, we could go up to Kurobe Dam, the biggest dam in Japan which at the time took seven years of duration for construction.
そして今回、幸運にも黒部ダムまで上がることができました。
国内最大のダムで、建設に七年かかったということです。
My children and I were really moved by its grand presence and nature that
it made us feel ourselves so small.
そのあまりの大きさ・迫力に私と子どもたちは感動し、壮大な自然の前では
人間とは小さいなあと感じました。
If you ever have a chance to visit this somewhat old traditional land, I suppose that you will find some archetypal images of the country.
どちらかというと古風なこの土地に来られることがあったら、日本の原風景とも呼べるような景色に遭遇されると思います。
