私の方はレッスンと、子どもの誕生日でしたので家族でお祝いなどを。
今週も初級〜中級レッスンで、先日は中級コースで“推測する時の言い方”について進めました。
推測するのによく I guess --- / I think --- / I suppose --- を使いますが、もう少し強く断定的に伝えたいとき、should be --- / must be --- という言い方をします。
For example：
should
・He left home twenty minutes ago. He should have arrived at the office by now.
彼は20分前に家を出たから、もう会社に着いているはずだ
・My shoes should have been repaired by now.
私の靴は今ごろはもう修理されているはずだったのに
・"The price on this packet is wrong. It should be £2, not £3."
パッケージに書かれている値段は間違ってるわ。3ポンドではなくて2ポンドのはずよ
must
・You must know where he is. He is a friend of yours.
君は彼の居場所を知っているはずだ。友だちなんだから
・"The building work next door has been going on all year long." "It must be really noisy."
「隣のビルの工事は1年中続いています」「それはうるさいでしょうね」
・"Where are my keys? I can't find them." "I saw you put them in your bag earlier today. They must still be there."
「私の鍵はどこ？見つからないのよ」「今日早くあなたがバッグの中に入れるのを見たわよ。鍵はまだきっとそこにあるわ」
＊意味合いの強さとしては should < must で、must be のほうがより断定的で強くなる
やや聞き慣れないかもしれませんが、should be / must be はネイティブもよく使う表現なので、ぜひ覚えて使ってみましょう！
