前回に引き続き、最後にもう１つ娘が小６のときに中学受験の英語入試に向けて書いたエッセイをご紹介したいと思います。
エッセイは、初見でテーマをみてから15分で書きあげる練習をしていました。
急いで書くので、実際手書きで書いたノートの文字はめちゃくちゃ汚いんですよぉ〜
ちなみに、娘は星新一さんの本が大好きでした。
英語の物語エッセイでは、星新一さんのショートショートにかなり影響された文章を書いています。

It’s the year 2100 and scientists have come up with a revolutionary new invention. Describe the invention and how it has changed people’s lives.
In 2100, scientists came up with a special machine that will change people’s lives forever. This machine will make it possible to take with people that are already dead.
People use this machine to talk with the ones they loved. Before scientists came up with this machine, people were so sad to have the ones they used to love die, and tried to keep them alive as long as possible, even if they looked like they were already dead. Now that this machine has been invented, people can talk to the loved ones just like they are talking to them on a phone. Therefore, some people even try to kill the people they love when they are about to die, so they would be able to talk to them regularly as if nothing happened.
Also, disastrous incidents happen because of this invention. For example, people are not scared of dying as they were before, because dead people assure them that death is not as scary as it seems. Then, people will die even when they only feel a little stress, because they know dying is not so frightening.
The machine to talk to dead people is an excellent invention, so lots of people have wanted it, but it is scary as much as it is wonderful.
2100年に研究者たちは世界を変えるような新発明をした。その発明について説明し、どのように人々の人生を変えたのかを答えなさい。
2100年に研究者たちは人の一生を変える特別な機械を作った。この機械は死んでしまった人と話すことができる機械だ。
人々は死んでしまった愛する人と話すことにこの機械を使う。研究者たちがこの機械を作るまでは人々は愛する人が死ぬことをとても悲しんだ。そして、その愛する人たちがもう死ぬ瀬戸際で苦しそうに見えても、できるだけ長く生きられるように延命措置をした。けれど今この機械が作られたからには人々は危篤状態の愛する人とその後いつでも話すことができる。だから、愛する人が息も絶え絶えでもう意識がなくなる状態になってしまった場合、またその人と何事もなかったように話せるように、延命中止をしてしまうこともあった。
この発明による欠点もある。例えば、既に亡くなった人が死ぬことは怖くないよと言うので、人々は死を昔よりも恐れぬようになった。そのため、少しでもストレスを感じると死を恐れぬ必要はないとわかっているため、人々はすぐに自死してしまうようになった。
死んだ人と話せるようになる機械はとても素晴らしい発明であり、たくさんの人がこれを求めているが、それでも、この機械は素晴らしいと同時にやはり同じくらい怖いものでもあるのだ。
