８歳６ヶ月の頃に書いたエッセイをご紹介します。
この頃は、中学受験塾に向けた算数や国語の勉強に追われていた時期でしたが、
英語のエッセイは、週１ペースで何かしら書いていました。

Should we have homework every night?
On average, students spend 20 hours on homework every week! I think it is too much and we need to cut down the amount of homework every week. I have two reasons why : we need time to relive stress by playing, and by being able to do work that we need.
First, students can play in the time they do homework. It is important to play, because it becomes great exercise, and it will take stress out. For example, I think ball games, jump rope, tag, and cycling are all good exercise and can take stress off.
Second, if the amount of homework is less, students can focus on the homework they have. Even boys or people who didn't get good grades on homework may get more good ones if they get sometime to play.
In conclusion, since less stress and more time to study freely is very important, I believe that we should not have homework every week.

今回のエッセイでは、プライベートレッスンの先生の提案で No の意見を書いています。
テーマによってはYes,Noの両方の意見を書いてみることもありました。
今回、娘が書きたかったのは、
①子供は遊んでストレス発散することが大事
②宿題が減れば子供達は自分たちに必要なことを自由に学ぶことができる
の２つだったと思います。
特に②の理由に関しては、学校の宿題が簡単すぎたりしてレベルに合っていない場合があるから、
と言っていました。
ただ、やはりそういった意見を口では説明できても、
文章で書き言葉として表現するのは難しいものですね。
それは日本語でも同じでした。
