娘は７歳の頃に、ライティングのテキスト(Spectrum Writing Grade2)を使ってレポート作成を学びました。
レポート作成は自分の調べたいこと、疑問に思ったことをリサーチをしてまとめる、
という非常にアカデミックな取り組みです。
レポートを書くためには明確なトピックを決める事から始まり、それについて調べていきます。
また、サブトピックを決め、全体の構成を考えながら書くことが必要です。
テキストには、そこまで明確な指導は書かれていなかったため、本当はサラッと書いて終わらせるつもりだったのですが、
プライベートレッスンの先生から
「大学の帰国クラスでもトピックを決めることを上手くできていない人がいます。なので、個人的にはここはしっかり教えなきゃいけないポイントなのかなと思っています。」
とのご意見をいただき、
レポート作成は、少し時間をかけて取り組むことにしました。
トピックを決めてエッセイを書くという作業は日本の学校では教えてもらえないので、
この時期にしっかりご指導いただけたことは本当にありがたかったです。

今回のレポートで、まず娘が選んだトピックは "fairy" でした。
なので、まず最初にfairyについて知りたいことを書き出していきました。
What do they eat?
How do they get a house?
Do they have money?
Who is famous?
Who is wise?
Do they have earrings?
Do they like bugs?
Do they die?
How long do they live?
ここで先生から一言、
「Fairyだとテーマが大きすぎるから、より具体的なサブトピックを決めて、もう一度リサーチをやり直そう」
娘も最初は戸惑っていましたが、というか、せっかく事前に考えていたものを否定されたと感じたのか、ちょっと怒っていましたw
その後、サブトピックを "Water fairys" に変更し、
もう一度リサーチをし直して、全体の構成を考えながら下書きをし、
レポートを書き上げていました。

Water Fairies
My report is about what water fairies can do. I think they are interesting because they can hold water drops. They can also make waves and ripples in water. They can string delicate dewdrops on spider webs, too. I think this topic is important because I like fairies for their ability to fly.
レポートと言っても、まだ短く簡単な文章で書いています。
最後のまとめの一文が先生と娘の意見がまとまらずに曖昧なものになってしまったのですが、先生が誘導しようとしても娘は自分が思ってもいないことは断固拒否なので、、、
でも、１時間半かけて先生と二人であれこれ調べながら書き上げ、
最後はWordでタイピングして完成させたので
娘は大きな達成感を得ることができたと思います！

Sneezing
My report is about sneezing.
Animals sneeze. Cats, dogs, birds and sheep sneeze... even turtles sneeze!! However, bugs don’t sneeze.
We sneeze because our body wants to get something out of our nose. Air rushes out at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour to 9 feet too. We also close out eyes when we sneeze every time!
I think this topic is important because I thought that animals and humans do some things to protect themselves secretly which was very interesting to me.

My report is about K.
His favorite color is navy blue. He likes it because it is a relaxing color.
His favorite animal is the capybara. It is a very cute animal that likes warm places.
Also his favorite music band is Arctic Monkeys. At his school he studies math and Spanish. He said that he can speak a little bit Spanish unlike me so I was surprised to hear that!!
I think this topic is important because I don’t give up when I am with K so he is the best teacher forever(B.T.F.) for me.
New York
My report is about New York.
New York has famous museums, towering skyscrapers and jostling crowds. The Statue of Liberty in New York rises up from the harbor and it is the symbol of the city. New York has the largest population of any other citys in the U.S. New York tallest building is the Empire State Building. The best bird watching place in New York is the Central Park. The sights in New York are the Brooklyn Bridge, Times Square, amusement park at Coney Island. Five boroughs make up New York City : Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx , Queens, and Staten Island.
I think this topic is important because New York city is very popular and I want to go there someday.
