11月の話だが、ゲイツ財団は、マラリア用のワクチンや新薬開発に2億5830万ドルを寄付したという。
CNET Japanの記事によればビル・ゲイツ氏は声明の中で「これまでに膨大な数の子供たちがマラリアで死んだ。これは彼らが殺虫処理された蚊帳を入手できなかったり、効果的な治療を受けることができなかったりしたためだ。われわれがマラリア撲滅プログラムを拡大し、研究開発に必要な資金を提供すれば、このような悲劇を回避することができる」と述べたという。
こういう記事を読むと米国と日本の精神の違いを痛切に感じる。
日本もIT長者と呼ばれる人達が数多く生まれたが、彼らはこの種の活動をしているのだろうか？
少なくとも私は、余り聞いた事がない。
活動していないのか、メディアに出てこないのか。
確かに、文化の違いはある。
米国では、寄付による建物には、寄付した人の名前が付くので、名誉欲というのもあるだろう。
日本だと、この種の活動をすると、陰口を叩かれる事も残念ながら否定出来ない。
それでも、昨今の日本はマネーゲームの色合いが強過ぎて殺伐としている印象を受ける。
VCは、単なるマネーゲームでは無いと思っている。
良い経営が出来れば雇用を生み出すし、経済にも貢献すると思っている。
”ヒト”というものを、改めて意識したい。
また、先日、米国の母に頼まれて、私は以下の「Toy Story」を寄せた。
彼女は、敬虔なカトリック教徒で、カトリーナで災害にあった子供達に、1つの大きな人形に、知人のToy Storyを集めて添えて贈るという。
今週末、メイン州の彼女の家では、クリスマスパーティが催されている（^o^）
My most favorite toy was B-Block which was similar to LEGO but it is bigger block than LEGO.
I was very happy to play with it at nursery school and developed many things. In my childhood, I always wanted to be a scientist in future who can create everything including aircrafts, robots, and even time-machine. I was imagining my future through this toy.
However, I was sometimes obstructed by a bully because I was too small and skinny to keep it. One day, I could not enough play with it and was very much depressed in the afternoon. I explained what happened at the kindergarten and then my parents asked me to bring mail from mail box.After coming back to front entrance, B-Bock was suddenly appeared in front of me. I was really surprised as I spent only couple minutes for the mail. Who can buy and bring it within such short time?
My parents told me that God presents it to you as you are a good little boy and God always see you. I appreciated God about this present.
Today, I always try to create new business as a businessman, not scientist, with this wonderful experience.
