When driving on the roads of Okinawa, you notice a lot of scooters. National Route 58, which runs north through Okinawa, is often congested, so scooters weave through the traffic with ease.
At "Pizza Stand NY" on the main street of Mihama American Village, you can enjoy large, American-sized pizzas. And of course, they taste great too, with plenty of rich, flavorful cheese piled on top.
The Chunichi Dragons' spring training camp is held every February in Chatan Town, and my wife and I go to watch it every year. Chatan Town also has Mihama American Village, so it attracts many tourists. It might just be the most fun town in Okinawa.

沖縄の建築物はふつうの住居でも商業ビルでも、バルコニーが広く造られていることが多い気がする。AIで調べてみたら案の定。強い日差しを避けるため軒の奥行きが深く広く造られていてバルコニーも広いらしい。沖縄の住居はほかにも台風の影響を避けるため平屋根の鉄筋コンクリート造りが多いという。そんなの常識じゃないか、何を感心しているんだと思われるかもしれないが、北海道では逆に、雪が積もってしまうのでバルコニーのある一軒家は、わりと少ないと思う。そのため家も商業ビルも、おうとつの少ないのっぺりした印象の建物が多い気がする。もちろん例外も多いけど。住居はその地域の景観に大きく影響していると思う。沖縄の建築物の奥行きの深いバルコニーと堅牢で武骨なイメージの平屋根のたたずまいは、南国の強い日差しを受けて濃い日陰をつくりだし、なんだか彫りの深い男性の精悍な顔つきを連想させる。
ところで先日、小林克也の例の番組で、ブルーノ・マーズの新曲をやっていた。ブルーノ・マーズは例の「アーパツ・アパツー」でケレンミたっぷりの音楽を披露していたんだが、この新曲はなかなか趣味の良い70年代ディスコ・ポップだ。最近アルバムもリリースしたようなのでしばらくブルーノの快進撃が続くだろう。ヒットチャートはここ数週間、オリビア・ディーンの「Man I Need」がトップを継続している。この人は完璧なプロポーションと80年代ソウル・ポップシンガーのような華やかなたたずまいが新鮮な魅力を醸している。これは絶対売れるんだろうなと思っていたら、ほどなくしてチャート1位になった。
