Nat King Cole(March 17, 1919 – February 15, 1965)は死後も高い人気を保っている黒人の人気歌手でピアニスト
でもあります。今回は晩年の1960年代の代表作を中心にお送りします。
"I don' t want to be hurt anymore"「悲恋のワルツ」（Charlotte McCarthy)は1964年全米22位を記録。
日本語でも録音しています。
"Cappuccina"(Vitopallavicini-Massara Previde-Nicola Salerno-Noel Sherman)1961年全米115位を記録した作品。
"Ramblin' rose"(Joel Sherman-Noel Sherman)1962年全米第2位を記録したカントリー調の作品でSing along スタイルで歌っています。
"Dear lonely hearts"(Emil Anton-Bob Hally)1962年全米13位を記録したこれもカントリー調の作品。
"My first and only lover"「涙のラバー」（Artie Kaplan-Paul Kaufman=Jack Keller）前記のアルバムに収録された
ティーン向き作品。
”All over the world”（Al Frisch, C. Tobias）1963年全米42位を記録。
"Those lazy hazy crazy days of summer"「暑い夏をぶっ飛ばせ」(Charles Tobias-Hans Bradke)1963年
全米6位を記録しました。 （原曲は"Du spielst 'ne tolle Rolle",Willy Hagaraが1962年に録音。 ）
原曲です。
"In the cool of the day"同名映画(1963)の主題歌で日本では「暑い夏をぶっ飛ばせ」のB面として知られています。
"That Sunday, that summer"「あの日あの時」(Joe Sherman-George Dvia Seiss)1963年全米12位を記録
しましたが、日本ではB面扱いのためあまりしられていません。
"Get out get under the moon"「月光値千金」（Charles Tobias-William Jerome-Larry Shay)1928年の作品で当時
Paul Whitmanの演奏盤がヒットしました。日本では独自にシングル盤として発売されヒットしました。
"Mr. Wishing well"(Lokie Edwards-Larry Weiss)1963年全米92位を記録。日本では「二人の自転車」のB面として
発売。
"I don't want to see tomorrow"(Lee Harris-Bernie Wayne)1964年全米34位を記録した"Blue velvet"を書いた
コンビの作品。
"L-O-V-E"(Bert Kaempfert- Milt Gabler)アメリカでは1964年最高位84位にとどまりましたが、それ以上に
知名度の高い作品。
”Autumn leaves”「枯葉」(Johnny Mercer-Joseph Kosma)1950年の作品。Roger Williams盤がヒットしましたが、
コールのレパートリーとして人気の高い曲で、日本語で歌います。
