This year I wanted to buy all the children who lived around me a little gift for Christmas. I gave them all a DVD from the christian book store, teaching the message of Christmas in a cartoon form. The story of Jesus birth in these DVD's, is told by animated vegetables; perhaps the story of Christmas that they haven't heard before. There is a lot of commercialism around Christmas these days and Santa mostly has the has centre stage. Although Santa brings some magic into Christmas, the importance of this time of the year is to remember the Saviour of the world, Jesus, the Messiah who came to bring peace.
On Christmas Eve, my neighbour Shelly popped over with her little 4 year old girl, called Ruby. I was so pleased because Ruby had opened her gift early and had been watching it everyday, because she didn't have a Christmas movie to watch. I was so thrilled to hear this news. They also had some red flowers to give me tied up with a sparkling silver star and a tiny bottle of magic glitter, for me to sprinkle when I needed to make everything alright. So cute. I love children's happy world of make believe.
I don't know any of my neighbours really well although I have lived in the middle of 3 families, for 7 years now. I have watched Ruby grow from a little baby and she often plays with some other little girls who I have watched grow from babies and are also my next door neighbours. They love to dress up and I enjoy hearing their little voices calling to each other. I am thankful to God, for the gift of children and good neighbours. I am blessed.
