The visitor began to tell the boy about the Good Shepherd. "His sheep listen to him and would never follow a strangers voice. In fact they will run from him because they do not recognise his voice." The boy understood, because his sheep knew his voice as well. The visitor went on "The man who enters through the gate is the shepherd. He calls all his sheep out by name and he leads them." The visitor told the boy, that this was a story that Jesus told long ago and that this story is in the bible. The story of the Good Shepherd is about Jesus; he is the The Good Shepherd. The people who know Jesus are his sheep. He is the gate and who ever enters through the gate will be saved.
"The Good Shepherd lays down his life for his sheep and that is what Jesus did." The boy thought about Daisy and was glad that she was safe. "He gave himself up to die on a cross for our sin. When we understand this we say sorry for our sin, we are made clean and pure and can be friends with our Holy God. Not just friends, God becomes our Father just as he is Jesus Father. When our life on earth is complete, our soul goes to live with him in heaven."
The visitor came daily to see the boy. Each day the boy was a little weaker and a little more frail. Each day the boy asked to hear more about the Good Shepherd. One day he came and knocked on the door. Mother opened it, her face very sad. Tears welled in her eyes and she shook her head. She lead him to the boys bed side. Father sat in the corner of the room next to the boys bed. His face tired and sad. His eyes red and swollen. The boy lay still and quiet. No breathing. No coughing. His face peaceful and calm. The visitor looked down at the boys hands and saw that the boy way holding his ring finger with his other hand. "The Lord is My Shepherd." The boy had heard the call of his Shepherd and entered in through the gate.
