A flareup of wildfires in Alberta is threatening as much as half a million barrels a day of output, with MEG Energy Corp becoming the latest company to evacuate workers.
About 500,000 barrels a day of marketable oil sands production could be within 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) of an out-of-control blaze, Rystad Energy said in a report Thursday. That’s equal to roughly 10% of the total oil output in the province. As much as 1.2 million barrels a day could be within 20 kilometers, Rystad Energy said.

As Western companies quake at the latest onslaught of cheap Chinese goods, a similar drama is playing out in China, where manufacturers are struggling as Beijing boosts industrial capacity without stimulating new demand.
The resulting overcapacity means that prices that producers charge at the factory gate have been in free fall for almost two years. That is dragging the overall economy closer to outright deflation, and eating into earnings.
Around a quarter of the companies listed in mainland China are now unprofitable, compared with 7% a decade ago, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of listed companies’ financial statements.

Many of the victims were children who had been removed from their families and placed in state, religious or foster care.

The analysis shows that Mr. Crooks, 20, who appears to have flown a drone to survey the site the morning of the rally, exploited one of the few blind spots within a rifle’s range of Mr. Trump, raising questions about serious lapses in security planning for the event.
