Chinese companies are doing something rarely seen since the 1970s: setting up their own volunteer armies. At least 16 major Chinese firms, including a privately-owned dairy giant, have established fighting forces over the past year, according to a CNN analysis of state media reports.
These units, known as the People’s Armed Forces Departments, are composed of civilians who retain their regular jobs. They act as a reserve and auxiliary force for China’s military, the world’s largest, and are available for missions ranging from responding to natural disasters and helping maintain “social order” to providing support during wartime.

(2/27：参照）Amazon officially joins the Dow Jones Industrial Average, booting out Walgreens
Amazon on Monday was officially added to Wall Street’s most venerable stock index, the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
S&P Dow Jones Indices, which manages the index, said last week that Walgreens Boots Alliance would be getting the boot from the 30-stock index. The change is intended to reflect “the evolving nature of the American economy” by increasing the Dow’s consumer retail exposure.
The change means that investors who bet on the Dow will now have exposure to Amazon’s stock performance.
Amazon joins Apple and Microsoft as the third company from the “Magnificent Seven,” a group of high-performing tech stocks, to join the Dow 30.

An unusually warm winter and roaring U.S. output have pushed natural-gas prices to some of the lowest levels of the shale era.
Adjusted for inflation, natural-gas futures recently hit their cheapest prices since trading began on the New York Mercantile Exchange in 1990.
This is good news for American consumers, who can look forward to lower utility bills, as well as for businesses that use a lot of natural gas making basic materials like steel, concrete, cardboard and fertilizer. Americans’ gas costs in January were about 18% lower from a year earlier, according to the Labor Department.
