launching a series of videos to improve English listening skill.
The topics are from our own Mail Magazine which you have
grown to love.
Today's video is entitled "Beaujolais Nouveau."
This is the name of a young red wine (from Gamay grapes)
that is usually released to the world on the third Thursday
of November.
Let us eavesdrop on the discussion of the DCEC staff members.

～During a brief discussion about the Halloween party's buffet list
J - Mr. Shima, I think we have to decide the Halloween party's
program soon. I've finished the games, speeches and
awards parts, but not the buffet's. Should we put it in the
middle part, just like in our DCEC Convey last June?
S - Yes. It's best that way, so that the guests will be able to
relax, eat and make friends right after the speeches and just
before the games.
J - However, we haven't decided yet as to what food to serve.
Should we go Asian or Western?
S - Hmm. In the previous party, we served Italian dishes.
Perhaps it's better to go Asian this time.
J - And the drinks?
S - Let's ask Blessed's opinion. (towards Blessed's desk)
Blessed, what's your suggestion as our buffet drink on
the Halloween party?
B - Wine, of course.
S - Such as?
B - Something new.
S - New? A new brand, a new bottle?
B - Nope. New, in terms of taste.
S - I know. Beaujolais Nouveau. Does Julita know that?
B - She knows every drink, from old to new.
J - I heard that.
●Useful and Humorous expression
★It's best that way
「そう、それがいい」と同意する時によく使う表現。簡単な単語ばかり
なので覚えて使うようにしましょう。
E.g. Julita, should I deliver Yumiko's recommendation
with Mr. Shima?
Yes, I think it's best that way, since it will be her first.
ジュリータ、由美子さんのレコメンデーション（アドバイス）島さ
んと一緒にしたほうがいいかしら？
ええ、彼女の最初のレコメーデーションだからそうしたほうがいい
わ。
★Should we go
おなじみの go がここでは行くではなく「～にする」と言う意味で使わ
れています。実際の場面では、go をそのような使い方をする事がよくあ
ります。例えば
"Shall we go Dutch?" なんかはよく使いますが、意味わかりますか？
オランダに行く？ではなく「割り勘にする？」ということです。
おもしろいでしょ？
E.g. Should we go formal or casual?
フォーマルにする？それともカジュアルにする？
★Wine, of course
ここでは、of course をつけることによって、ただ Wine というよりも
「なに言ってるの、ワインに決まっているじゃない」というようなニュ
アンスを与える事ができます。このような使い方を覚えておくと便利で
すよ。
E.g. What English conversational school do you recommend?
DCEC, of course.
どこの英会話スクールがいいと思う？
もちろん、DCECよ。
★Something new
ただ新しいと言うのではなく、なにか目新しい、あまりまだ知られてい
ない、経験していないものをさしています。
E.g. Would you like to try something new as your hobby?
なにか目新しい趣味にトライしてみませんか？
◆「ボジョレーヌーボー」
登場人物： J-ジュリータ、B-ブレセッド、S-島
~ハロウィンパーティーのブッフェ・メニューについて打ち合わせをして
いる時.
J: 島さん。ハロウィンパーティのプログラムをもう決めなくてはいけな
いと思うんだけど。ゲームとスピーチと賞品は決めたけど食事がまだ
なの。6月のDCECパーティの時のように真中にしたほうがいいかしら。
S: そうだね。スピーチの後、ゲームの前にお客さんがリラックスして食
べたり、友達を作ったりできるからそれが一番いいよ。
J: でも、まだどんな料理にするか決めてないわね。アジアンにするか洋
風にするかどうしたらいいかしら。
S: うーん、前のパーティはイタリアンだったから、今度はアジアンがい
いかもしれないね。
J: で、ドリンクは？
S: ブレセッドの意見を聞こうよ。（ブレセッドのデスクに行って）
ブレセッド、ハロウィンパーティのブッフェのドリンクどうしたら
いいと思う？
B: もちろんワインよ。
S: 例えば・・。
B: なんか新しいの。
S: 新しい？なにか新しいブランド？それとも新しいボトル？
B: ちがうわ。新しい味。
S: わかった。ボジョレーヌーボーだ。ジュリ-タ知ってる？
B: 彼女は（お酒のことなら）古いのから新しいのまでみんな知ってるわ。
J: 聞こえたわよ。
