Today's video is entitled "It's On Me." This is an expression
that means you will pay the bill.
Let's listen and find out who is the generous one in DCEC.

~in a general meeting

S - Before we formally end our general meeting, I'd like to
announce a promotion in the management. Marie passed
her training as a manager last Thursday. Congratulations!

(applause)

J - Would you like to deliver a speech, Marie?

M - As to what I've said to the management team upon receiving
the news, thank you for giving me this opportunity to lead
a department. I'll do my best to help this company prosper
more.

J - Thank you. Any messages or inspiring words for Marie?
(looks at the attendees)

D - Good luck, Marie.

S - You deserve it. And, we deserve to share your success, right?
How about a dinner or a singing spree after our party on
Saturday?

M - Oh, thank you.

S - Thank you. Isn't it a practice that whoever gets the promotion
should treat her colleagues?

M - All right. It's on me.

All-(rejoicing cheers)Yipee!








●Useful & Humorous expression



★It's on me

on ～　で～のおごりとか、～が勘定を払うと言う事です。
これ以外に treat　という単語も同じように使いますね。
This is his treat.


Ex.As you paid the dinner, drinks are on me.
夕食はあなたが払ったから、ここの飲物は私が払うわ。

★promotion
昇進。

Ex.The president announced the promotion of Bill to general manager.
社長はビルの部長への昇格を告げた。


★You deserve it.
deserve　というのは誰かが今までしてきたこと、あるいはその人の資質
などからそうする権利がある、そうあるべきだ、ということを表現致しま
す。

Ex.You deserve a long vacation after all that hard work.
あのハードワークの後なんだから長期休暇を取っても良いよ。


★spree
お金を使ったり、お酒を飲んだり楽しい時を過ごす事を言います。

Ex.Julita went on a shopping spree and bought many dresses.
ジュリータはショッピング三昧をしてたくさんのドレスを買った。

全体会議で

S:正式に会議を終わる前にマネジメントでの昇進をお伝えします。マ
　リーが先週の木曜日にマネージャーとしての研修に通りました。
　おめでとう。

（拍手喝采）

J:マリー、何かひとことどうですか。

M:このニュースを受け取った時にマネジメントチームに言った事は
　ひとつの部署を任せていただく機会を与えてくれてありがとうござい
　ます。この会社が更に繁栄する助けになるようベストを尽くします、
　と言う事ですね。
　
J:ありがとう。だれかマリーにメッセージか励ましの言葉はないですか。
　
（出席者を見る）

D:頑張ってね、マリー。

S:はマネージャーになって当然だよ。そして、僕たちはきみの成功を
　一緒にお祝いする権利があるよね。土曜日のパーティの後ディナー
　はどう、それともカラオケは？

M:まあ、ありがとう。

W:いいえ、ありがとう。昇進した人が同僚にご馳走するのが習いだろ。

M:わかったわ。私の奢りよ。

All:（喜びの喝采）やったー。

Inside the office while everyone was working on their desks.

S:Excuse me, Marie, do you have any plans for your birthday
　this Saturday?
M:None yet, actually. Why?
S:Oh. I was planning to celebrate your and Diana’s birthday at
　my house.
D:I heard my name...
S:Yeah, I want to celebrate both your and Marie’s birthdays. Will
　you be available?
D:That sounds good... Yes, of course.
M:But wouldn’t our coming be a bother to your wife?
S:No, not at all…I’ll cook the food for you…

Diana and Marie were surprised.

M:Are you sure the food will be edible?
S:I don’t know…
(Everyone laughs)





●Useful & Humorous expression

★ sound

誰かや何かに対し、読んだり聞いたりしたことを表現するときに使いま
す。～らしい。～みたい。

Ex.The price sounds really expensive.
その値段、本当に高いみたい。


★bother

悩ませる、心配させる、邪魔するなど。

Ex.Don’t bother me when I am studying.
　 勉強している時は邪魔しないで。



★edible
食べられる。

Ex.Are these red mushrooms edible?
I don't think so.
この赤いきのこ食べられるかしら。
　 食べられないよ。


★not at all

質問や否定的なことを言う時にいいたい事を強調するために使う表現。
全く～

Ex.The changes were not at all surprising.
　 その変更には全く驚かなかった。





◆「食べられる料理」


登場人物：マリー－M、ダイアナ－D、島－S


オフィスの中、みんなデスクではたらいていた時。

S：マリー、ちょっといいかな。今度の土曜日の君の誕生日、何か予定は
　 ある？
M：実はまだ決まってないのよ。どうして？
S：うん、うちで君とダイアナの誕生日をお祝いしようかなと思って。
D：私の名前が聞こえたような…
S：そう、君とマリーの二人の誕生日をお祝いしたいんだけど、その日は
　 空いてる？
D：それいい話ね…もちろんokよ。
M：でも、奥さんのご迷惑にならないかしら？
S：全然。僕が君たちに料理を作ってごちそうするんだから…
ダイアナとマリーはびっくりする。
M：料理は食べられるの？
S：さあね…

It's Saturday evening and the lessons have just ended.
After finishing everything for the day, Scott rushes to
the bathroom to change his clothes. As he emerges, two
learners standing in the lobby are surprised at his
attire.

T: Wow, a jinbei! You look great.
H: Yes, that fits you very well.
Sc: Oh, thank you. I bought it in Kiyosato last year.
It is very comfortable.
H: You even have geta, I'm impressed. What's the occasion?
Sc: Yeah, they are a bit small, though. I'm going to the
Sumidagawa fireworks display with my friends tonight.
T: That's great. I'm sure you'll have a blast.
Sc: I'm sure I will.

------The following Monday----------

Sc: Oh, my feet hurt.
N: What's the matter?
Sc: I went to the Sumidagawa fireworks and my geta broke
on the way home. I have no idea how or why, but
suddenly I heard a loud 'SNAP!' and next thing I know,
my left heel was touching the ground.
N: That's a first. I've never heard of geta breaking.
Sc: Yeah, I posted a picture on facebook and one of my
friends said I must be getting fat... I told him
he's just calling the kettle black.
N: What did you do?
Sc: I just manned up and walked the rest of the way
balancing on the unbroken part.
N: Whatever works, I guess.

「愉快な夜の外出」

土曜日の夕方、レッスンがちょうど終わったばかり。
その日を全てを終えた後、スコットは服を着替える為にトイレ
へ急ぐ。彼が現れると、ロビーに立っていた2人の生徒が彼の
格好に驚く。

T：　わぁ、甚平だ！かっこいいね。
H： うん、凄くお似合いだわ。
Sc:　ありがとう。昨年清里で買ったんだ。とても着心地が
　　 いいんだよ。
H：　下駄まで履いているのね、すごーい。何があるの？
Sc： ああ、下駄はちょっと小さいんだけどね。今晩友達と
　　 隅田川の花火大会に行くんだ。
T：　それはいいね。きっと楽しい時間を過ごせるよ。
Sc:　うん、そうするつもり。

月曜日になって...

Sc： あー足が痛いよ。
N：　どうしたの？
Sc:　隅田川花火大会に行って、家に帰る途中で下駄が壊れた
　　 んだよ。何でだかさっぱりわからないんだけど、いきなり
　　「パキッ！」って大きな音が聞こえて、気が付いたら僕の
左かかとが地面に触れていたんだ。
N：　そんなの初めて。下駄が壊れるなんて聞いたことないわ。
Sc： ああ、フェイスブックに写真を載せたら僕が太ってきたっ
て言われたから、人のこと言えないだろうって言ったよ。　
N：　それでどうしたの？
Sc:　毅然とした態度をとって、壊れてない部分でバランス取り
ながら帰り道を歩いたよ。
N:　 形式はどうあれうまくいけばいいってことね。
