Today, we did test fitting the engine for 69 Chevelle.
まずは、トランスミッションメンバーやほかのマウントをきれいにクリーニングして……
At first, we cleaned up for transmission mount, cross member, and some mounts......
ショートブロック状態のエンジンを、へたったマウントで搭載します。
Then, we installed for short block engine with old engine mounts
何ゆえにへたったマウントで搭載するかと言うと、今回、エンジンの搭載移置をちょっと後ろにずらし、さらに下へ下げているんです。で、新品のマウントでクリアランスが大丈夫でも、マウントがへたってくると、そのうちどこかに当たり始めてしまう可能性があるんですね。で、そのクリアランスを想定して、最初からへたったマウントでクリアランスをチェックするのです。
The reason why we used old engine mounts for test fitting, if we used new mounts and got enough clearance, but it could be happened mounts would be sagged and started hit something though it was fine with new mounts. So, we placed old mounts for first test fitting and checked clearance. If clearance was fine with old mounts, it must be much better with new mounts.
当初予定していたオイルパンより、さらに容量の大きなオイルパンにしたのですが、クリアランスはギリギリ大丈夫です！
We already put larger volume oil pan, but I decided to install much more larger one. But clearance was OK.
オイルパンのサンプ部分も問題なし！フレームよりも低い位置に来ないので、最低地上高も問題ありません。エンジンをフロントミッドに積むと、サンプを大きくできるので、さらに容量が稼げるのです。こうやってびしっと決まると気持ちがいいですね～
Oil pan fitting seemed just fine. And ground clearance seemed OK.
この後、ダミーのシリンダーヘッドを取り付け、へダースを取り付けて、各部のクリアランスをチェックしていきます。
Later, we would install mock up cylinder heads and test fitted headers to check clearance.
