フランス道路事情

フランスに入国の後、現地の足はこれ！！

After I entered successfully France, I got this ride.

ルノーのクリオ、これもディーゼルターボでマニュアル車です！

Reunalt Clio, this was also turbo diesel car and had manual shift.

で、パリ市内を走るのに、まず絶対に必要な運転テクニックが……

Then, if you drive in Paris, you have to have this driving skill.....

縦列駐車。

Parallel park !!!

これ、全然まだいいケース！！

Dude, this was much more easier case !!

とにかく、街全体がこんな感じなんです。縦列駐車は、どう考えてもバンパーが当たっているだろうという車も多数見受けられるので、レンタカーに保険は絶対必要！

Anyway, whole town was filled with parallel parking cars. Some cars were hitting bumpers each other, so you must have good insurance policy for rent a car.

で、郊外の高速道路はこんな感じ。広いところは、１３０キロ制限なんですが……

And this was highway and it had 130 km speed limits......

この速度で走っていても、時々ぶち抜かれます。

Even I drove in this speed, many cars were passing me.

ガソリンスタンドは、普通のセルフ式ガソリンスタンドとなんら変わりないのですが……

Gas station looked just ordinal style, and nothing special to do it.

ただ、ディーゼルの軽油なのに、１リッター、１．４６９ユーロ。

However, diesel fuel price was 1.469 Euros for 1 litter.

１リッター、２００円オーバー！！

More than $2 for 1 litter. In the term of gallon, it costs about $7 for a gallon !!!

DOOOOOOOHHHHHH !!!!

で、この有名な凱旋門の回りは、巨大なロータリーなんですが、その走り方たるや、優雅だなんて言ってられません。

And around this famous a triumphal arch was big round about, but driving manner was not elegant, actually, it was brutal.

OK, this was what actually happened around a triumphal arch.

車間を取ると割り込まれるので、車間はできるだけ詰めて、信号を守ると追い抜かれるので、信号はとりあえず参考程度にし、同時にこの隙間を自転車、オートバイ、歩行者が通り抜けるので十分に注意し、誰かは入り込んでくるときには、思い切りクラクションを鳴らして威嚇して、それでも入ってくるときには、汚い言葉で罵り・・・・・・

If you keep safety space between cars, somebody will break just in front of your car. If you obey traffic light, somebody passes you and breaks just in front of you, so you better to think traffic light is just a reference. And many bikes, motorcycle and pedestrians are going through between car and car, so you must be very careful not to kill them. And do not hesitate to honk strongly to somebody, and sometimes you need to shout 4 letter words to somebody in order to avoid potential traffic risk.......

線路は続くよ～

え～、今回の仕事はイギリスだけではなくて、その反対側の国にも行かなければいけません。でも、飛行機ではないんです。

This time, I had to go not only England but also other side country. However, transportation method was not air plane.

ここは、ロンドンのセントパンクラスという駅で、ハリーポッターで有名になったキングスクロス駅の隣にあるんですが……

OK, here was St Pancras station, which was located just next to Kings Cross station where would be famous for Harry Potter stories.

よーく見ると、パリ行きって書いてあるのわかります？？

If you saw very carefully, information board showed about information for Eurostar to Paris.

いわゆるユーロスターという、ヨーロッパ版新幹線で、ドーバー海峡の下のユーロトンネルを通り抜けて、フランスへ向かいます。

OK, this was Eurostar, which would go through Euro tunnel under the straits of Dover.

これが、ユーロスターを使ってイギリスを出国するときの出国スタンプ。ちゃんとキシャポッポのデザインになっているところが、ちょっと笑えます。

If you looked carefully this passport exit stamp, toy like locomotive was printed at the edge of stamp. Cool.

ちなみに、ユーロトンネルは、ユーロスターだけではなくて、こんな列車も……

By the way, not only Eurostar goes to Euro tunnel, but also this kind of train.....

いわゆるカートレインで、車ごと列車に乗り込むステーションがトンネルの手前にあるんですね。本当に、そのまんま車ごと乗りこんで、車の中に乗りっぱなしという、ある意味大胆な列車。

This was called as Le shuttle, in other words, it was car train. You only needed to enter inside cargo train by driving your car, and park it, and stay inside.

中はこんな風になっています。一部の列車は、大型バスやトラックがそのまま入れるんですね。

This was inside of Le shuttle. Some train had enough space for big bus or even trucks.

で、２時間後……

And, 2 hours later.....

パリ到着！

Paris !!!!

ちなみに、この便利な特急は、片道３万円くらいします。

Well, this is very convenient but costs me about $300.

DDDDOOOOOHHHHH !!!

なぜかハリーポッターの国で・・・・・・

え～、ここはどこでしょう？？？

Well, where was this place ????

ま、わかるわけがないので言いますが、ここは、ロンドンのキングスクロス駅。ハリーポッターの９３／４ホームがあるところですな。

Well, this place was world famous Kings Cross rail road station in London, there was 9 3/4 platform.

なんでこんなところにいるかというと、ちょっとした自動車関連の仕事で、ヨーロッパに来たのです。残念ながら、守秘義務がある仕事ゆえに、ブログでその内容を公開はできないのですが、それでもちょっと面白い珍道中ストーリーをご紹介。

I just came to London because I got some kinds of secrets automotive related business. Because it was secret, I could not show you what an hell was going on here, but I would let you know some funny stories of this trouble, no travel.

今回の旅のお供は・・・・

This time, I got this for my ride....

フォードのモンデオステーションワゴンです。

This was Ford Mondeo station wagon.

なかなかスタイリッシュで、どうしてこいつを日本で販売しないのか不思議なんですが。

I thought this was so cool and why not to sell it in Japan??

そして、トランスミッションは、６速マニュアル！ちなみに、イギリスでは、レンタカーでも黙って借りると普通にマニュアルミッション車が出てきてしまいます。

And this had 6 speed manual transmission. By the way, if you made reservation for rent a car in England, the car will be manual transmission if you do not make any request for automatic.

さらにエンジンルームを開けると・・・・・・

And inside of engine bay, there were.....

ターボディーゼルエンジンなんですね。ちなみに、イギリスでは、ほとんどの乗用車がディーゼル。ＢＭＷもベンツもほとんどがディーゼルで、今回見かけたガソリン車は、アストンマーチンとランボルギーニとフェラーリくらい（笑）。

This was Diesel motor with Turbo. Actually, I thought 90 percent of passenger cars in England were diesel. And only gas motor cars were Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Lamborghini in this travel.

メーター周りは、なんだかドイツ車のような感じなんです。フォードはアメ車ですが、ヨーロッパではヨーロッパフォードとして認識されていて、英国車とも言われているんですね。

Around the instrument panel looked like German cars, although Ford was pure American company, but majorities recognized Ford was English brand in Europe.

イギリスなので、メーターのスケールはマイル表示。ちなみに、道路標識も、ヤード＆マイル表示で、一瞬戸惑います（笑）。でも、燃料はリッター表示なんだよね～・・・・

Because this was British, speedometer scale was mile. And all road signs were indicated in term of mile or yard, so it made me disoriented a little bit. However, fuel amounts were indicated as Litter, not Gallon.

で、高速道路はみんな結構ぶっ飛ばしていて、１６０キロで走っていても追い抜かれるくらいなんですが、たまにこういうのがいてビビリます。

Then, many drivers were driving so fast that I passed by many even I was driving over 100 MPH !!! Moreover, sometimes I encountered this kind of car on the highway.....

太いことはいいことだ！

で、今度はまたも６９年シェヴェル。ジャンククルーザーも、ジャンキーなエンジンが火が入ったのでそれも紹介したいのですが、写真がクラッシュしていたので、今日は６９年の紹介。

And, we still working on 69 Chevelle. Actually, we did good job for Junk Cruiser and it was running short a while, but our picture date was crashed, so we showed only 69 today.

オーナーの希望で、リアにはできるだけ太いタイヤを入れたいのですが、ナロードデフなど入れられないので、まずはDawn'sのコルベットからはずしたワークのホイールをはかせてみます。

The owner wished to install fat tires in rear, but we were not going for narrowed axle, so we did test fit our 18 inch Work wheel at first.

タイヤは２８５サイズで、まぁ、結構格好いいのですが、まだこれではちょっとばかり迫力が足りないということで・・・・・

The size of tire was 285 sized and looked very cool, However, we were still not satisfied with this looks, so......

こんどは３１５サイズ！

So, we test fitted 315 !!

COOOOOLLLL !!!!

ただ、これを入れるには、結構加工しなければならないので・・・・・・ま、やるんですけどね（笑）

But, if we were sticked with this size, we had to a lot of metal and body work........but, we were going to do .

青いちょっとちっちゃいやつ

今、シェヴェルが工場内でもう一台同時進行しておりまして・・・・ジャンククルーザープロジェクトもあって、工場のなかはいっぱいいっぱい。おまけに、外では納車直前のインパラワゴンが最後の難関にチャレンジ中。やれやれ。

We had another Chevelle right now inside our factory, Well, we already had Junk Cruiser project inside, so the factory was sooooo tight. Moreover, just outside of the factory, Huge Impala Wagon was sitting to waiting to take final minor surgery just a step before delivery. Ah.

で、このシェヴェルは６７年式なので、この前の６９年式よりちょっと小さいんです。それに、ちょっとありえないエンジンを載せるということで、ずっとあれこれ対策を講じてきたのですが、いよいよ部品も大体そろったので、作業開始！

This Chevelle was 67 model, so it was a little bit smaller than 69. But we were going to install bad ass big motor inside of this, so we had been working on survey to pick up right parts and figure out clearance problem. Now, all problem seemed clear so time to yank out crappy old engine.

作業が早くないわれわれですが、さすがにおろすの早い！

We were always late to do anything, but yanking out the motor seemed pretty quick.

VOLLA !!!

おろすのは早いんだけれど、この後がね～

Well, this was good part, the problem was later part.

とてもきれいなエンジンルームなので、あまり余計な仕事をしないで済むのですが、問題はマスターバック。こいつにでっかいエンジンを搭載するとなると、このマスターバックがあたってしまって登載できないと思われます。

The engine bay was so clean and we never do any additional work in here, but brake booster seemed big problem to install bad ass motor, because it absolutely would hit valve cover, so we had to figure out how to clear it.
