ブロムシュテットのグリーグ:劇音楽「ペール・ギュント」の物語と音楽
こんにちは。音楽評論家の和田大貴です。今日は、ブロムシュテット指揮サンフランシスコ交響楽団によるグリーグの劇音楽「ペール・ギュント」についてお話したいと思います。
この録音は、イプセンの戯曲《ペール・ギュント》に付けられた全２６曲のうち２０曲を抜粋し、独唱、合唱、俳優による語りを加えて、物語の流れを追えるようになっています。
では、《ペール・ギュント》とはどんな物語なのでしょうか。
ペール・ギュントは、ノルウェーの農村に住む若者です。
彼は夢見がちで自己中心的で、現実から逃げる傾向があります。
ある日、ペールは村の娘ソルヴェイグと恋に落ちますが、彼女の父親に反対されてしまいます。
そこで、ペールはソルヴェイグを連れて逃げ出しますが、途中で山賊の娘イングリッドと出会い、彼女と結婚式を挙げてしまいます。
その後、ペールはさまざまな冒険に巻き込まれます。
アフリカでは奴隷商人になり、エジプトでは狂気の女王アネイトラと恋に落ちます。
しかし、ペールはすべてを捨てて再び旅に出ます。
老いたペールはついに故郷に帰りますが、そこではソルヴェイグがずっと彼を待っていました。
ペールはソルヴェイグの愛に救われるのです。
グリーグはこの物語に素晴らしい音楽を付けました。
有名な「朝」や「山の魔王の宮殿にて」、「アネイトラの踊り」、「ソルヴェイグの歌」などは、それぞれ物語の場面や登場人物の感情を表現しています。
ブロムシュテットは、アメリカ生まれですが、スウェーデン国籍を持ち、ストックホルムで教育を受けた指揮者です。
ノルウェーの国民的作曲家グリーグの音楽は、彼にとって親しみやすいものだったのでしょう。
実際、この録音は再録音で、１９７７年にはシュターツカペレ・ドレスデンを指揮して原語による抜粋盤を入れています。
その時は、組曲の形でしか演奏されなかった作品を原語で聴けるということで話題になりました。
私もその旧盤を聴いて、作品の魅力に惹かれました。
しかし、サンフランシスコ交響楽団との再録音は、さらに素晴らしいと思います。
サンフランシスコ交響楽団の透明感ある音色は、作品の世界観にぴったりです。
また、ブロムシュテットの指揮も１１年間の成熟が感じられます。
ペール・ギュントの冒険と感情を、彼は生き生きと描き出しています。
北欧の音楽ならではの美しい旋律や情感もしっかりと伝えています。
独唱や合唱も素晴らしく、特にウルバン・マルムベルイやマリ-アンネ・ヘガンデルの歌声は圧巻です。
ノルウェー民話の世界に心おきなく浸ることができる名盤だと思います。
Grieg of Blomstedt: Story and music of the drama ``Peer Gynt''
Hello. My name is Daiki Wada and I am a music critic. Today, I would like to talk about Grieg's theatrical music ``Peer Gynt'' performed by the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra conducted by Blomstedt.
This recording includes excerpts from 20 of the 26 songs included in Ibsen's play Peer Gynt, and includes solo vocals, chorus, and narration by actors, allowing you to follow the flow of the story.
So, what kind of story is Peer Gynt?
Peer Gynt is a young man who lives in a rural village in Norway.
He is dreamy, self-centered, and tends to run away from reality.
One day, Père falls in love with Solveig, a village girl, but her father disapproves of him.
So Père runs away with Solveig, but on the way he meets Ingrid, the bandit's daughter, and ends up marrying her.
Pale then becomes involved in various adventures.
In Africa he becomes a slave trader, and in Egypt he falls in love with the mad queen Aneitra.
However, Pale throws everything away and sets out on a journey again.
Old Père finally returns to his hometown, where Solveig has been waiting for him.
Père is saved by Solveig's love.
Grieg set this story to wonderful music.
Famous poems such as ``Morning'', ``In the Mountain King's Palace'', ``Aneithra's Dance'', and ``Solveig's Song'' each express scenes from the story and the emotions of the characters.
Blomstedt is an American-born conductor of Swedish nationality and educated in Stockholm.
The music of Grieg, Norway's national composer, must have been familiar to him.
In fact, this recording is a re-recording, and in 1977 he conducted the Staatskapelle Dresden and included an excerpt in the original language.
At that time, it became a hot topic because it allowed people to listen to works that had only been performed in the form of suites in their original language.
I also listened to the old version and was drawn to the charm of the work.
But I think the re-recording with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra is even better.
The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra's transparent tone is perfect for the worldview of the work.
Also, you can feel that Blomstedt's conducting has matured over the past 11 years.
He vividly depicts Peer Gynt's adventures and emotions.
He also conveys the beautiful melodies and emotions unique to Scandinavian music.
His solo and choral singing is also wonderful, especially the voices of Urban Malmberg and Marie-Anne Hegander.
I think this is a masterpiece that allows you to immerse yourself in the world of Norwegian folklore.
