なかなか更新できずすいません。
今回は、目的という意味を持つ英単語の使い分けを
説明したいと思います。
目的という英単語は、
実際に自分で英語を使う際にかなり使うと思いますので
この差をわかっていると、英語の使い手としてひと味違った人だと思われますので
がんばって覚えてきましょう
まず”目的”という英単語の数ですが.....
よく使うものとして
aim,objective,goal,purpose,object,end
の5つがあります。
では一つずつ説明していきます。
まず、
objective
英英ではsomething that you are trying hard to achieve, especially in business or politics
＝あなたが達成するために一生懸命挑戦するなにかであり、特にビジネスや政治の世界で用いる。ちょっと和訳しただけではわかりにくいですね。もうちょっと調べてみました。
ビジネス、政治で使われる＝形式張った、フォーマルな場で使われる。
また多くの要素を含み、計画的な目標の達成の必要性と努力を要する目的を示唆する
とありました。割と大きい目標の計画ということですね。
例文:He vowed to achieve certain objective before the end of his presidency.
次にobjectです
まずこの単語の英英から
the purpose of a plan , action , or activity となっています。
端的な内容の目標ということです。
例文：The object of the game is to improve children's math skills.
次にaim
英英はsomething you hope to achieve by doing somethingです。
目標の明確さと狙っている状態を強調した語である。
全体的な曖昧な目標をobjectiveと表すと
その全体の目標の途中にある明確な一つ一つの目標をaimという。
The object of the game is to improve children's mans skills.
次にpurpose。
英英:the purpose of something is what it is intended to achieve.
intendedが入っている事から、
達成の決意に最も重点がかかっている。動機を表す。
The purpose of his meeting is to elect a new chairperson.
次に、end.
英英:an aim or purpose , or the result you hope to achieve
努力の動機に最も重点を置いた表現。
40% of all research is undertaken for military ends.
次にgoal.
英英:something that you have hope to achieve in the future.
endやaim に似た者であるが、
goalはかなり長期的なものである。
your goal as a person is to help your child become an independent adult.
