知床半島はオジロワシ、オオワシの越冬地として知られている。数百羽ものワシ
が集結し、世界最大の規模といわれている。マッカウス洞窟では、珍しいヒカリゴケ
を見ることができる。根室海峡を隔てて国後島と向き合う。
Rausu / White-tailed eagle
The Shiretoko Peninsula is known as a place where the white-tailed eagle
and Steller's sea-eagle pass the winter. Hundreds of these eagles come
here and the scale of the gathering is said to be the biggest in the world.
At Makkausu Cave, visitors can see luminous moss that is very rare.
This town faces Kunashiri Island beyond the Nemuro Strait.
