Iroha ( https://iimono-iikoto.takashima-syo.jp/tenpei ) is a confectionery brand based in Takashima city in Shiga prefercture. I was about to board the Shinkansen train in Sendai during the Tanabata festival when this huge stall with daifuku caught my eye.

I never tried the brand before so I picked up a few (I remember melon and orange) from the 20 or so of daifuku they had. All different colours and of course tastes.

Their base is glutinous rice from Shiga prefercture, butter-flavored flour paste and sweet bean paste.

I devoured all of them 5 at once that night. Their texture was gum like and a little bit sticky. That is mochi for you. The fine white sugar covering the daifuku helped to dry up the saliva. The inside content was really delicious, each having its own unique taste. Not too sweet but not bland either. Just enough. It did not leave any aftertaste and my mouth was left clean ready for the next one.

From memory they were not expensive either, so if I see them again I would definitely buy a bunch.

Recommended.
Will try again.
