In our western culture we're often inundated with pressures of society and media to become more than we already are. We often compare ourselves to those around us who already have more than we currently have. As a result we place ourselves into the position of poverty.
Do not start too many programs at any one time, this will do harm more than good and you will get distracted unnecessarily. Start with one and stay focus. Learn all you can and get good at it. Living a lifestyle you want is not impossible. All you need is your commitment to make things happen. Spending 2-3 years to build a solid financial future is definitely worth investing than living those days in poverty alone.
Do you guard the things you have as a company owner or business as though it is your very own? Do you make sure a contract is signed with every relationship and every task? Do you protect everything you have, every penny, every hour, constantly keeping track to make sure nothing slips through the cracks? This my friends is an impoverished state of mind and it typically will hold a company at the $ 1-15 million mark. Try as hard as they can, most company owners (and I say most, there are exceptions to every scenario) won't go beyond that point because of this basic essential need of control.
The love of money. This is probably the most misused verse in the Bible pertaining to money. People as claimed that "money is the root of evil" but that is not what the Bible states. It is the love of money over all else that God considers to be a root of all kinds giving to charity of evil.
To put that into prospective: Poverty in America was estimated to affect 46.2 million people. As you drive down the interstate on your way home, consider that 1 out of 15 cars around you - contains a family struggling in poverty!
Undisciplined living or seeking pleasure will bring upon poverty. Focusing too much on the fun side of life, can cause you to outspend your income. Many people, especially those that grew up with very little, or struggle financially, can fall into the trap of "keeping up with the Jones" mentality, leading to a lack in preparation, and more focus on impressing others, rather than living responsibly. Ever wonder why so many lottery winners are broke within five years?
One reason people are turned off by poverty, or are afraid of it, is because they really have no clue what to do about it. That depresses them and overwhelms them, so they'd rather stick to the more pleasant places to travel. After all, it is a vacation, right? I don't blame them. Taking action is not easy. But it's important. Your tour company or guide should provide you with a few simple action steps as to how you can apply your knowledge of poverty, deepen your understanding, and impact change. If they don't, research it independently, or, contact us. We would love to share our thoughts with you.
