Jawa was a relatively smarty guy, from a decent family, and through a chain of unfortunate circumstances, his life was almost ruined. How much more difficult must it be then for people from broken homes or ghettos, people with children or with a criminal record? A large percentage of the American population lives, hanging by a very narrow thread, which could break at any moment, setting them adrift, slipping into the oblivion of those two relatives, homelessness and hopelessness.

Thinking in general requires our brain to ask questions. We all do it consciously and unconsciously. The answers our brain formulates is strictly dependent on the quality of question that is being asked. If our negative thought pattern was 'Why am I always broke?' First of all, it already presupposes that we aren't making any money. And at the same time our brain must answer the question and tell us why we're broke. The usual answer our brain must come up with is, 'Because you're an idiot when it comes to finances'.
Recently, I have developed an addiction for the Judge Judy TV show. What I love about the show is Judy's sense of justice. But I also see the show as a look into the lives of everyday Americans. Everyone on the show is not necessarily poor, but what I often see is that people behave immorality for relatively small amounts of money, and I have to believe that they would have behaved better if they weren't living so close to Poverty.
I have visited a number of foreign countries. It is just amazing to me how anyone in the United States can stay in poverty. There is so much wealth, abundance and opportunity in the United States that it staggers the mind.
In fact, quite a few of the items that you have been used to receiving in your other classes are scarce, if not nonexistent, in this class. For example, you might have noticed that there are no textbooks for this course. Part of living in poverty is learning how to do without the nonessentials. Other professors may feel that textbooks are important but I say they're a waste of money. I am perfectly capable of teaching you all you need to know about Poverty without having to consult some textbook that was written by a college graduate who lives in a gated community and drives a $80,000 automobile.
The fact is that we can see abundance all around us when we choose to look. Is there ever a lack of air, or water? (except in certain circumstances, but for the majority of us, these are plentiful). Is there an abundance of rain, snow, sun, grass, trees, birds, or children? Poverty consciousness will have you thinking that there is not enough for you, and recovery from it is a change in perception. You can choose to see that the world is abundant. You can expect your needs to be met, and you can act as if life is full of promise. When you start to do this, abundance is drawn to you effortlessly. Choose wisely.
