1964年にサム・クックが亡くなって以降、多くの追悼曲が歌われた。
タイトルにサム・クック名を付ける曲もあれば、歌詞の中に入れるものもあった。
当時はサム・クックの曲をカバーするというだけでも追悼の意を表していたように思う。
なかでも歌詞の中にサム・クックの名前が入っている曲は、そのアーティストがサム・クックやサム・クックの曲をどう捉えているかということがはっきり分かるものだ。
今回はデータベースとしてもそういった"Sam Cooke"という名前が歌詞に含まれている洋楽を列挙してまとめてみた。
検索しきれない曲や、これから新しく生まれてくる曲が見つかれば追加していく予定だ。
まとめていく過程で気づいたことは、2000年以降の歌詞にサム・クックが出てくる曲の殆どがヒップホップだったということ。そしてそれらの殆どが"A Change Is Gonna Come"のサム・クックであり、"You Send Me"のサム・クックではないということ。
もうお分かりのようにサム・クックはチェンジ教の教祖様のような扱いであるということだ。
サム・クックを曲に使ってくれるのは嬉しいことだけど、さすがにそんな曲ばかりになってくると食傷気味になる(^_^;)
まだまだそういう時代だから仕方のないことかもしれないけれど。。。
