In the world, there are numerous private prisons operating. These facilities are predominantly businesses driven by an almost 100% profit motive. By entering into contracts with governments, they aim to reduce correctional expenses and leverage mechanization, among other strategies, to cut down on labor costs, thereby generating substantial profits.
世界中には多くの民間刑務所があります。これらの刑務所の多くはほぼ100％利益を目的とした企業みたいなものです。国との契約を通じて、更生費用を削減し、機械化を導入するなどして、人件費の削減を通じてかなりの利益を生み出しています。
Despite the introduction of various correctional programs in contemporary society, the rate of recidivism continues to climb, and crimes are becoming increasingly more heinous. To tackle these issues, it’s essential to transform individuals fundamentally. We thought the only proven method for such transformation was through divine grace based on experience. This insight led to the establishment of a nonprofit prison eight years ago (as of December 2017). Constructed with funds donated by various churches, this facility operates on a completely nonprofit basis under a government contract to house 400 inmates, without generating any profit.
現代社会に導入された様々な更生プログラムにもかかわらず、再犯率は絶えず上昇し、犯罪はより一層凶悪化しています。これらの問題を解決するためには、根本から人を変える必要があります。経験上、人を変える唯一の方法は神の恵みであるという認識のもとに、非営利の刑務所が8年前（当時2017年12月）に開設されました。この刑務所は各教会からの寄付金で建設され、国との契約のもと、400人の受刑者を収容する100％非営利の運営をしており、利益を一切残しません。
The impact of divine intervention in this prison has been profound. Whereas the general recidivism rate hovers around 60%, here it remains in the single digits. The outcomes are particularly noteworthy concerning sex offenders, a group that represents one of the most challenging issues globally due to the increasing brutality and depravity of sexual crimes. Over the past seven years, this prison has managed many sex offenders, sharing with them the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit, fostering a community, and providing education. Out of approximately 230 offenders who have been released upon completing their sentences, only three have reoffended.
神の手によるこの刑務所の成果は顕著です。一般的に再犯率は60％に達する中、この場所では5~6%の再犯率を維持しています。特に性犯罪者に関しての成果は注目に値します。性犯罪は世界的に扱いが難しく、犯罪の残酷さと異常さは増す一方です。この刑務所も多数の性犯罪者を扱っており、神の方法と聖霊の力により恵みを分かち合い、共同体を築き、教育することで、過去7年間で刑期満了で出所した約230人の犯罪者の中で再犯した者はわずか3人です。
This success is astonishing, attracting correctional officials worldwide to visit and benchmark our practices. Upon visiting, they often express their perplexity, noting the absence of sophisticated programs, facilities, or a large number of professionals. We conclude that, although our programs and facilities may not be glamorous or exceptional, it is indeed the power of the Holy Spirit that forms the foundation of everything we do.
この成果は驚異的で、世界中の更生担当者が見学に訪れ、私たちの方法をベンチマークしようとしています。訪れた人々は、専門的なプログラムや施設、専門職員が少ないにもかかわらず、どのようにしてこのような成果を出せたのか疑問に思っています。私たちの結論は、プログラムや施設は派手ではないかもしれないが、すべての基盤を成すのは確かに聖霊の力だということです。
