今日から Lesson21 Honing Conversational Skills（会話術を磨く）に入ります。
本日は第１回目です。
■ hone
「（技術・才能などを）磨く」という意味です。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
She has honed her writing skills over 15 years as a journalist.
■ of one kind or another
「何らかの」という意味で、make one excuse or another（いろいろ言い訳する）、for one reason or another（どういうわけか）などの意味があります。
■ fad
「（一次的な）流行」という意味で、形容詞はfaddishです。
■ develop a taste
「（･･･を）好きになる」という意味です。
なお、have a taste for somethingという言い回しもあります。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
He has no taste for designer items.
■ in your face
「大胆不敵な」、「押しつけがましい」という意味です。次のような例文が挙げられていました。
He was so in your face and demanding the decision immediately.
■ gratuity
「心づけ」、「チップ」のことです
なお、形容詞のgratuitousは、「無料の」、「余計な」といった意味があります。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
His presentation included a lot of gratuitous facts about the company's history.
