先週はニュースレターをお休みしました。
孫のジョスリンのバレーボールチームがセントルイスの南で日曜日の試合に出るので午後に出掛けて日曜日の夜遅くに帰ってきました。
ニュースを書こうと思っていると月曜日の昼前に州の検察官から電話があり、この郡で悲劇が起きたと言ってきました。
保育園児を載せたバスが大型トラックに衝突して炎上し、乗っていた保育園児３人、バスとトラックの運転手5人全員が死亡しました。
高速道路は閉鎖され州警察が現場検証をし、翌日の朝には国家運輸安全委員会からの１０人が到着し半日道路を閉鎖して調査に当たりました。
他の悲劇同様、この事件には地域から多くの支援が向けられました。
郡の委員会は家族への募金を募る為にフィッシュフライを振舞いました。
４５０キロもの魚、３６０キロのポテトサラダ、５００キロのインゲン豆の付け合わせやパン、レモンが地域のスーパーや業者から提供されました。
ライアンは委員の一人なので先週は、事態を確認し、被害に遭った家族一人一人に状況を知らせる辛い仕事に追われました。
先週の穀物相場は上がり、５月大豆は１４．５セント上がりましたが、とうもろこしは３セント下がりました。
大豆価格は３週連続で上がっていますが底値を見たのでしょうか。
天気は変わりがちで、夜は寒いながら日中は３月としては暖かい日が多かったです。今日、日曜日の夜はマイナス６℃迄下がりますが週後半には２３℃迄上がるでしょう。
チャドと仲間は、薬品倉庫を整備し、穀物をエレベーターに運び、私の土木作業も手伝ってくれています。
私は、先週後半に別の池の作業を始めて今週はその作業を続けるつもりです。

米国では悲劇があると募金を募って遺族に渡すことが良く行われます。
東日本大震災の時も、ミネソタの同僚たちが食べ物を持ち寄って提供しながら会社で募金を集めていた事を思い出しました。
遺族の方々には何と言って良いか分かりませんが、ライアンさん、大変だったことでしょう。
Sorry I missed last week’s newsletter. Jocelyn is on a travel volleyball team that has their games on Sunday and last week it was south of St. Louis so we traveled down the afternoon before and got home late on Sunday. I had all intentions of writing during the week but Monday before noon I received a call from our states attorney telling me there had been a tragedy in the county. A school bus carry preschoolers hit a semi-truck, both vehicles exploded in flames and all 5 people involved were killed, three children, the bus driver and the semi driver! The highway was shut down while the state police did there accident investigation and the next morning a group of ten investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board arrived and shut the highway down for another half a day to do their investigation. As with many tragedies this has brought an outpouring of support from our community and many around and today the fair board is having a fish fry, excepting donations for the families. They are cooking over 1000lbs of fish, serving 800lbs of potato salad, 150 gallon of baked beans along with bread and lemon, all donated by area grocery stores and food warehouses. Ryan, who is on the fair board has spent most of the week getting things lined up and has spoken with each affected family to let them know what is going on, a tough job!
Grain markets were higher last week and beans followed thru this week with May beans up 14 ¼ cents while May corn dropped 3 cents. The bean market been up three weeks in a row and might have formed a bottom? Our weather has been variable with mostly cool night and fairly warm days, at least for March. Our low tonight could get down to 20F before warming up to 75F later in the week.
Chad and guys have been busy working on our chemical building, hauling grain and helping me on a couple of construction projects. I started on another pond late last week and plan to continue on it next week.
