6月半ばにセンチュリーコーンをエレベーターに持ち込みましたが、水分は13パーセントで、私が考えて居たより低いものでした。
2019年の収穫が遅れた時、長期保管中の品質劣化を心配していつもより長く送風機のファンを回して居た為に水分が下がったようです。
地場に月5万トンほどのとうもろこしを使う飼料工場があるのですが、最近、水分が14から15パーセントのとうもろこしに割増金を払い始めました。
飼料製造の要因となる様々な要素は、とうもろこしの水分が14パーセントの時が最適となります。そして他の材料と混合した際にも良い結果をもたらします。
この工場は家から近いのでとうもろこしを売って居たのですが、今までは、水分が15パーセントを超えて割引されることはあっても低い水分で割増を受け取る事は稀でした。
とうもろこしは順調に育っています。
この地域で5月15日と16日にとうもろこしを植えた農家は大雨のせいで、植え直ししなければいけませんでした。その量は全体の15パーセントにもなります。
4月1日に植えたとうもろこしの成長具合は、4月20日に植えたとうもろこしと変わりません。
ですが、今年のセンチュリーコーンが豊作になる可能性は高いです。
これから数日は気温が高くなりますが、土壌水分はたっぷりなので問題はないでしょう。
ケントさんの農場は、飼っている肉牛を放すための柵があります。とうもろこしの収穫が終わると牛を放し、畑に肥料も提供します。
I delivered some CC in Mid June that was 13% moisture, a little drier than I had planned. The late harvest of 2019 had me worried about long term storage of CC & preserving its' high quality so I ran the fan more frequently than I usually do. A local feed mill that uses about 50,000 bushels of corn a week recently started paying a premium for corn that has a moisture content between 14 & 15%. The grinding qualities like shrink, dust particle size, energy required to grind and some others are at an optimum level in the 14% range. Plus 14% ground corn makes a better feed when mixed with the other ingredients. I sell them some corn since they are very close to our farm, but rarely get a moisture premium. I usually get a moisture discount for exceeding 15%.
The corn crop looks pretty good. The whole neighborhood had to replant all of the corn that was planted May 15 & 16. That amounted to 15% of our corn acres. Corn that was planted April 1 is i n the same vegatative state as corn planted April 20. The yield potential for CC 2020 crop looks to be great. Hot weather is predicted for the next several days but we have PLENTY of soil moisture.
