こちらはメモリアルデー*の週末ですが、雨が降っていて、まだ続きそうです。
ここ2週間程、西イリノイを含めた中西部では、作物にとって最高の天気が続いています．先週末に25ミリの雨が降り、今週末も25ミリ近くの雨が今朝までに降っています。
作物は急速に成長しており、とうもろこしも大豆も、葉が伸びて畝の間が葉で覆われそうです。
先週は、700エーカーのトウモロコシ畑に窒素肥料をサイドドレッシングで与え、とうもろこしに2回目の除草剤を散布し、70エーカーの大豆を植えなおし、土木工事もしました。それに加えて雑草刈りもこの時期はきりがありません。 （チェットさんは、センチュリーコーンを育てていません）
来週は、大豆畑2500エーカーに2回目の除草剤散布をする予定です。 私たちはリバティリンク*大豆を高台の畑に、低い土地にはジカンバ*耐性大豆を植えています。ライアンが見たところでは、800エーカー程の畑では、畑に雑草が無いのでジカンバを散布する必要が無いと言っています。 他の薬剤を使って、必要とあらば、ジカンバを後で散布するかもしれません。
金曜午後、ネットで先週買った小型トラクタ―を引き取りにコロラド州に向かいました。このトラクターは、私の父が1980年代に買った古いトラクターと入れ替える為に買いました。 父の古いトラクターは、雑草刈り、穀物搬送機の駆動、そして小型の溝堀機を動かすために使っていましたが、重整備が必要になっていました。ラジエター、ステアリング、油圧系から塗装に至るまで全てです。
私は古いトラクターを修理して使い続けたいですが、修理には時間が掛かり、その間、雑草刈りをするトラクターが必要です。
コロラドに行くのに、ミズーリ州の北部、アイオワ州の端、ネブラスカ州の南を通りました。 行き道の全てで作物は良く育っていましたが、ネブラスカ州西部では大雨に降られました。
土曜の朝にコロラド州Brushに到着して、気温5度の嵐の中でトラクターを積み込み家路につきます。 帰りはハイウェイ36号でカンサス州を通りました。この道は真っ直ぐですが、勾配があって、上り坂と下り坂が連続しているので、車や機械の中のオイルレベルを調べるための水平な場所がありません。土曜の晩までにやっと雨の地域を抜け、ミズーリ州のSt.Josephで一泊しました。家に帰ったのは日曜の昼です。 全部で2,560キロのドライブです。
帰り道でも作物は非常に良い状況でした。来週には、新旧トラクターの写真を送ります。
今週は穀物価格が上がったので、新穀の買値は、私たちの追加売りの目標価格に近づいてきています。 今週の写真はトウモロコシと大豆の畑ですが、何日か前の写真で、急速に伸び始める前の状態なので、来週の畑を見たらきっと驚くと思います。

今年のとうもろこしと大豆は、順調に生育しているようで、一安心です。
アメリカ人は長距離ドライブを平気でしますが、トラクターを荷台に積んで二日で2,560キロのドライブとは、チェットさん、タフガイです。

ラウンドアップ耐性の大豆ではなく、この2種の大豆品種を植えているという事は、除草剤ラウンドアップに耐性を持つ雑草を心配しているのでしょうか。

It is Memorial Day weekend for us and with the rainfall we might take a day or two off.
Excellent crop growing weather for us here in Western Illinois and most of the Mid-West the last two weeks. We received an inch of rainfall last Sunday-Monday and close to another inch yesterday into this morning. Crops are growing rapidly and both corn and beans will soon have the rows closed!
We have been busy side dressing 700 acres of NH3, second pass spraying all of our corn, replanting 70 acres of beans in a total of 10 fields along with finishing up several construction jobs and of course mowing which never seems to end this time of year! Next week we hope to complete second pass soybean spraying, 2500 acres in total, we have all Liberty link beans on the hill and dicamba beans in the bottom, Ryan has been scouting and believes he will not need to use dicamba on about 800 acres of their beans because they are so clean and plans to use another chemical program but can come back with dicamba if needed later.
Last Friday afternoon I headed for Colorado to pick up a utility tractor I bought on an online auction earlier in the week. I bought this to replace an older (mid 80’s) utility tractor that was the last tractor my Dad bought. We use these for mowing and running a grain auger mostly along with a small rotary ditcher. Dads old tractor is in need of some major rebuilding, everything from radiator to steering to hydraulics to paint. I would like to keep it and fix it up but it will take some time and we needed a mowing tractor. I traveled across the top of Missouri, corner of Iowa and across the southern part of Nebraska to reach Colorado. Crops looked good all the way out, some heavy rain fell as I drove thru the western half of Nebraska. I pulled into Brush, Colorado on Saturday morning, picked up the tractor in a rain storm with the temperature at 42 degrees and started home. I decided to come back thru Kansas on HWY 36 which is straight but not flat, you are either going uphill or downhill all the time and I am not sure where they find a flat spot to check their oil in vehicles or equipment! I finally ran out of the rain by that evening, stayed in St Joseph, Missouri on Saturday night and made it home before noon on Sunday, driving just over 1600 miles. Crops looked very good all the way home as well. I will get you a picture of the old and newer tractors for next week.
Grain markets made some progress this week and new crop bids are getting close to our next sales targets.
Pictures this week are of corn and beans, both are a few days old and as I stated before they are growing rapidly, and I believe you will be surprised by next week’s pictures.
