7月30日のおしゃべりclub Bでの会話を一部ご紹介します。
日傘男子はあり？なし？
毎日猛烈に暑い日々が続いていますが、皆さまどのように暑さをしのがれていますか。今回は外出時に使うと日よけ効果のある日傘について話し合いました。タイトルからも想像がつくように、日傘を使うのは主に女性で、男性が使う様子を見るのはまれです。男性ももっと日傘を使おうというキャンペーン活動に関する記事を読んだ後、まずは男性参加者の意見を聞いてみました。
Have you ever used a parasol when you go out? Or are you hesitant to use one? If so, why?
このような問いにどんな回答が出てきたと思われるでしょうか。一人の参加者は
I don’t hesitate to use a parasol at all because I know its effectiveness in shielding me from the sunlight. For a person with sensitive skin like me, it’s a powerful tool, especially during this excessively hot summer.
と、日傘の使用に全く躊躇がない、という意見がまず出ました。おまけに
The campaign’s catchphrase, “Why don’t we stop the notion that parasols are effeminate?”（日傘は女っぽいとかもうやめませんか）is ridiculous. I have no prejudice against using a parasol.
と、全く偏見がないことを主張されました。もう一人の参加者は、
I recently realized how effective it is to use a parasol when I go to the nearest train station every morning. Even early in the morning, the sunlight is so strong that I can’t stand it without a parasol.
と、最近のあまりの暑さに朝出勤時に使用してみたら、とても快適であることに気づかれたそうです。でも別な参加者は
I’ve never used a parasol in my life. If you say it’s so effective, I’ll try using my rain umbrella to shield myself from the sunlight since I have no parasol. Once I’m convinced, maybe I’ll buy one to become a “higasa-danshi.”
と、まだ使ったことのない男性参加者の意見が。こちらのタイプの方が多いと思っていたので、意外な結果でした。
そこで今度は女性参加者に尋ねたところ、もちろん使っているということで、お気に入りの日傘を紹介してくれました。
My parasol is white outside and black inside. That combination of colors is the perfect way to shield the sunlight. On top of that, it is equipped with an alarm device so that the user can release an alarming sound when something dangerous happens to them.
なるほど、日よけの役割以外に、スリに遭遇するなど外出時の危険対応策としてアラームが付いている日傘もあるのですね。一緒に読んだ記事の中には、霧状の水をスプレーしてくれる日傘もあるとありました。
まだまだ工夫の施された日傘がありそうです。日傘男子志望の皆さん、こんなに便利でなおかつ熱中症予防にもなる日傘をご一緒に利用して、この酷暑を乗り切りましょう！
