２月27日のおしゃべりclub Bでの会話を一部ご紹介します。
ウクライナ情勢はどうなるか
今回は「軽自動車の電動化」をテーマとする記事を読んで議論する予定でした。 しかし、現状はまだガソリンに依存している我が国で、ロシアのウクライナ侵攻が引き起こすエネルギー価格の高騰が、深刻な影響を及ぼすだろうということで関連記事も紹介したところ、圧倒的にそちらに興味が行き、時間いっぱいウクライナ情勢についての議論となりました。
First of all, I feel great sympathy for Ukrainian people, who are having unnecessary suffering.
とエネルギー価格高騰を心配するより先に、戦禍にあえぐウクライナ国民を心配する声が上がりました。加えて、他の参加者からは
I agree with you about the word “unnecessary.” Putin is doing what will give him no benefit. By doing this, he would be banished from the international community forever.
とロシアのPutin首相にとっても最終的には何のメリットもないと思われるこの過激な行動に、なぜ出るのだろうといぶかる声が出ました。では、この事態に世界はどう対処すればいいのでしょう。
Now that western countries including the United States have no will to fight directly with Russia, economic sanctions are the best and most effective way to stop the invasion.
とある参加者は米国を含む西側が取りつつある厳しい経済制裁に賛成し
That is sure to lead to price hikes of everything. But we need to endure it for a while to help Ukraine.
とウクライナを助けるためなら多少の値上げは我慢しようという言葉で閉めました。これだけが私たちにできることでしょうか？すると
There’s a hope. Many ordinary people across the world including Russians are taking to the streets to protest against the invasion.
という声があり、一般市民による反対運動に希望を見出したいということでした。ロシア国内でもそのような動きがあるのは心強いですね。
そんな話で盛り上がる中、別な角度からの発言が。
I’d like you to turn your attention to geopolitical situations in Asia. China must be watching this incident very carefully, and if Putin gains something ultimately, the Chinese leadership will act similarly in the near future.
と恐ろしい未来図を予想してくれました。もちろん中国が似たような態度を取れば隣国である日本にとっては直接的な脅威です。それには日本も自己防衛できる戦力を持つ必要があるなど、どんどんきな臭くなって行きます。第三次世界大戦や核戦争などの言葉も頭をよぎり、我々は今まさに時代の転換点（tipping point）に立っていることを実感させるセッションでした。
