The Brothers Karamazov
Fyodor Dostoevsky
This is number 4th books I have read among the Lader series from IBC publication. The lists I have read except “The Brothers Karamazov” are following; Bible stories, Four tragedies of Shakespeare, and A History of Western Tragedies and Accidents.
These trials to read books in plain English is going on from last December and it works still now because these books are composed of easy and undertandable English. But acturally, I was not able to sometimes understand and catch meanings of words, sentences and proverbs correctly.
Some books, textbooks, blog written by people like me studying English said that texts written in shcolar fields including sciences and medicine in compatible to us are easier to read than stories written for native english speakers, namely children, are. Because we don’t have enough chance to learn words to express the way to change their feelings and act. Moreover, we, English speaker as a second language, have a little English vocuabulary at most from 8,000 to 1,2000 words. Usually native people have around 70,000 words, it is beyond my capacity now. So, Reading this book is very usefull to increase my vocubulary. The concept to these Lader series is a plentiful reading. So I was not recommended to use dictionary or index to find and assure unknown word meanings. I sometimes miss meanings, besides might be misunderstand the sentences. But in general, I thought I could catch up with story.
In addition to reading, I want to promote writing skill so that I can easily do writing without any efforts. Nowadays studying English makes me so happy and unnervous to write and speak English, even my tutor online English conversation points me out to correct pronounciation and grammer strictly. It is true that exact grammer is important to study and understand English properly and it helps me to polish my English more and more. If I can use grammer as same as foreigners, I don’t have difficulty to utilizing English. Radio Eikaiwa broadcasting from 6:45 every morning teach me that it means subject if the words were set on the subject. I loved this maxim my teacher had said, and that sentences made me proud to use English.
In the textbook, “The first time I saw her is at the dance party.” is the best example to support this opinion. Though I was not so much proud to use English of course, I like to use it.
Let me move on to state sentiments of readings. This is the firsrt time for me to read “The Brothers Karamazov.”, Since long long story is shrank to only 16,650 words, this is just a plot. But it is enough for me. I was encouraged to read this books published from Kobunsha someday. Because Japanese editions are an enormous amount number of words, which is 5 books. It kills my motivation to read. I was happy to read this this time.
Of course, I can’t enjoy full of the story, religion conflicts, love among family, Russian justice and so on, which are not fully expressed in this short story. Dmitri, Ivan, and Alexei, three brother’s opinions are understandable, even when love was focused on.
I enjoyed the scene of court. and Ivan finally showed evidence of Dmitri’s innnocence, consequently letters from Dmitri to Katrina was present. Verdict sentenced Dmitri to guilty. I was excited results of loving each other.
Prologue showed funeral of Ilusha. I like to these ideas proceeding to next generation.
What will I read next??
