PRAIA DE CARCAVELOS, Cascais - Portugal (Monday, September 28, 2015) - The Allianz Billabong Pro Cascais, final stop on the 2015 World Surf League European Qualifying Series is on StandBy. A lay day has been called due to small surf on offer at both the main site of Carcavelos and back-up location of Guincho.

“We are extremely fortunate that Cascais is the host to so many good waves and in particular the two spots we’ve elected for this event in Carcavelos and Guincho,” Francisco Spinola, organizer of the event stated. “This part of the coast will materialize any bit of swell out there and despite a tricky forecast we’re confident we’re going to run the event in good conditions.”

This event will re-ignite the fierce battles that started last week at the SATA Azores Pro as surfers enter the second stop of the Portuguese Waves Series - Cascais Trophy which will conclude at the Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal

Jack Freestone (AUS), 23, winner of the SATA Azores Pro last week will assume the event’s favorite position, coming off a blasting performance that propelled him to No.2 in the QS rankings. Freestone, who could very possibly be a newest addition to the Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour next year, will battle an even stronger field of 13 athletes from the Top34 when the event commences in Cascais.

“Generally we always get fun waves here in Portugal between Carcavelos and Guincho and to win here would be amazing,” Freestone said. “Guincho is definitely the wave magnet and even though the forecast isn’t great I’m sure we’ll get fun waves this week.”

Surfers and organizers will reconvene at 7:30AM on Tuesday for a potential start of the opening round of competition at the back-up location of Praia do Guincho.
