EL SUNZAL, La Libertad, El Salvado (Tuesday, November 4, 2025) -  A momentous day awaits at the World Surf League (WSL) Surf City El Salvador Longboard Championships, final stop of the 2025 WSL Longboard Tour, to crown the 2025 World Longboard Champions. The event window opens tomorrow, November 5 through November 9 at the world-class right point break of El Sunzal near El Salvador’s Surf City of La Libertad. Eight of the top men and women longboarders from the WSL Longboard Tour season will battle for the World Longboard Title in the one-day showdown, following the updated Championship Tour (CT) format.
One-Day Showdown Determines 2025 World Longboard Titles in Updated Format

In 2024, the Final 8 format crowned World Longboard Champions Taylor Jensen (HAW) and Rachael Tilly’s (USA). This year, the Surf City El Salvador Longboard Championships will utilize the updated format seen at the 2025  Lexus WSL Finals Fiji.

If the No. 1 seeds Avalon Gall (USA) and Edouard Delpero (FRA) win their first Title Match, they will be crowned the 2025 World Longboard Champions. If they should lose the first Title Match, it will be the best two-out-of-three to determine who claims the Title.

The road to the Title Match will remain, beginning with Match 1 featuring the No. 8, No. 7, and No. 6 seeded competitors looking to enter Match No. 2 with a win. The winner of Match 1 will face the No. 5 and No.4 seed in Match 2 before the victor heads to Match 3 to face the No. 3 seed. Then, the No. 2 seed will face the winner of Match 3 to determine who enters the Title Match, with a possible best two-out-of-three scenario for the No. 1 seeds.
Avalon Gall and Edouard Delpero Enter El Salvador as No. 1 Seed

More history awaits at El Sunzal with Edouard Delpero (FRA) and Avalon Gall (USA) vying for their maiden World Longboard Titles as the No. 1 seeds. But a list of worthy contenders is ready to make a run toward history all their own.

Gall’s incredible run through 2025 included her first WSL Longboard Tour victory at the Lexus US Open of Surfing and a runner-up at the Abu Dhabi Longboard Classic. The Laguna Beach, Calif., competitor, Gall, enters the World Longboard Title showdown for the first time in her career.

“I'm just hoping to get some good waves and I hope everybody gets good waves,” said Gall “I can't wait to watch everybody surf and try not to put any pressure, just going out there and having fun. It is so beautiful here and the water is warm and there's always really good waves and it's really nice to be back here.”

The WSL Longboard Tour veteran, Delpero, returns to the arena of El Sunzal for the first time since 2023 and this time awaits in the Title Match. The 35-year-old earned the No. 1 seed with his recent win the Surf Abu Dhabi Longboard Classic.
Five former World Longboard Championships are all looking to hoist the coveted trophy once more, including four-time defending champ Taylor Jensen (USA), three-time champion Honolua Blomfield (HAW), three-time champion Soleil Errico (USA), two-time defending champ Rachael Tilly (USA), and 2018 champion Steven Sawyer (RSA).

“It's just a pretty perfect wave for a longboard,” said Jensen. “A cobblestone point break, not too different to Lowers or San Onofre. I spent a lot of time growing up surfing there, so it's got that familiarity too. It's a right point, which is my front side, which I love. It's gonna be really hard to back it up, especially with this talent pool, but I'm up for the challenge and just stoked to be here and get to surf a perfect wave.”

Tilly and Sawyer’s mission will be a test, with reigning World Longboard Champion Tilly starting as the No. 7 seed and Sawyer as the No. 6 seed. Both will surf in Match 1 where No. 8 seed Rogelio JR Esquievel (PHL) and No. 7 seed Declan Wyton (AUS) await in the men’s. While No. 8 seed Tully White (AUS) and No. 6 seed Kelis Kaleopa’a (HAW) are set for women’s Match 1 with Tilly.
The winner of Match 1 will have to overcome No. 5 seeds Max Weston (AUS) and Hiroka Yoshikawa (JPN) and No. 4 seeds, Longboard Tour veterans, Kevin Skvarna (USA) and Chloe Calmon (BRA), respectively, in a second, three-person bout.

Jensen and Blomfield enter the one-day showdown as the No. 3 seeds, awaiting the winner of Match 2 as both look for history all their own to stand apart in longboard history as Jensen looks for a historic fifth World Longboard Title and Blomfield fresh off a win at the Surf Abu Dhabi Longboard Classic, and looking to continue her momentum with a history-making World fourth Longboard Title.

"Abu Dhabi was crazy. I don't think me or anyone else expected that to happen,” said Blomfield. “I didn't really think I was going to make it here, so I really had nothing to lose there. I was grateful to be able to just get waves there at all. I love wave pools, obviously, so I had a good time and I'm glad it worked out this way, and I'm here. I've been to El Salvador a few times now and had a bit of success, I guess. I just feel like I fall in love with surfing every time I come here because the waves are so good. I'm happy to be here.”

Errico joins Blomfield in the hunt to stand apart in history with four World Longboard Titles and enters the event as the No. 2 seed alongside 2025 standout Kai Ellice-Flint (AUS). Both Errico and Flint earned big victories, Errico a three-peat at Bells Beach and Flint’s maiden win at the Lexus US Open of Surfing and will face the winner of Match 3.

“I mean this wave it's so much like the Pass at home in Byron, it's just like a bigger version of it,” said Ellice-Flint “I think as longboarders it's given us the perfect opportunity to showcase a very contemporary style of what we're able to do on a longboard, and what's being, showcased in the past and through the 60's, and the 90's, and now today I feel like this way suits that very well”

All roads lead to the Title Match, where Gall and Delpero will have to overcome who has the momentum and try to etch their names in surfing history.

El Sunzal’s Premier Point Break Sets the Stage

The premier right point break of El Sunzal provides one of the world’s best canvases for longboarding style, grace, and poise under pressure. Located just west of El Salvador’s Surf City, La Libertad, El Sunzal is open to an array of swell directions, with a S, SSW being an ideal direction to witness its long-running walls.

But, while the beauty of El Sunzal can enthrall competitors with numerous opportunities to capitalize on nose rides and swooping down carves, the paddle back to the takeoff is a test all its own in the scorching heat of Central America. A testimony to stamina and commitment, the World Longboard Champions have shown their determination in overcoming the elements that El Salvador has to offer.

Event organizers will convene at 7:30 a.m. CST to determine a possible 8:00 a.m. CST start to the Surf City El Salvador Longboard Classic. Check out WSL Dawn Patrol beginning at 7:00 a.m. for the call.
