RIBEIRA D’ILHAS, Ericeira, Portugal (Sunday, October 5, 2025) - Today, Tya Zebrowski (FRA) and Kauli Vaast (FRA) won the the EDP Ericeira Pro, Stop No. 4 on the World Surf League (WSL) Challenger Series, overcoming an incredibly deep field of hungry competitors chasing the ultimate goal of qualifying for the 2026 Championship Tour (CT). With three events to go, there was a distinct momentum shift in Portugal and the rankings are taking shape. It’s a quick turnaround until the next stop at the Saquarema Pro, and Zebrowski and Vaast lead the rankings going into Brazil.
Tya Zebrowski Goes All The Way In Portugal For Full Circle Moment

Coming to Ericeira with a taste for redemption after her runner-up finish in 2024, 14-year-old Tya Zebrowski (FRA) was determined to get the win this year. She seemed unstoppable in all kinds of conditions that Ribeira d’Ilhas threw in her direction. The Tahitian youngster has been very vocal about her goals to qualify for the CT, and perhaps even be the youngest woman to do it. Today, she became the first French woman and the youngest to win a Challenger Series event, and she’s storming towards the class of 2026 with a very comfortable lead at the top of the rankings.

“It feels so good, I’m so happy!” said Zebrowski. “I’m so happy to win here in Portugal. Last year I came second, so I’m so excited to get the win this year, it means so much to me. I just want to thank my family for being here and my sponsors for all the support. I would like to dedicate this win to my aunty, we love you and miss you.”

Former CTer India Robinson (AUS) was the first to pull the trigger and get a score on the board in the women’s Final, but Zebrowski stuck to her own game plan. She slowly started to build on her score, and once she jumped into the lead with a 6.20 (out of a possible 10), she started to tighten the screws. Surfing with a bit more freedom, she found the best wave of the heat, linking up the sections with strong turns all the way to the inside and earning a 7.33. Time ran out for Robinson and Zebrowski’s dream of winning in Portugal, came true.
Kauli Vaast Earns Debut Challenger Series Victory

Kauli Vaast’s (FRA) season got off to a brilliant start with a runner-up finish in Newcastle, and now the 2024 Olympic Gold medallist put himself back into the CT qualification conversation with his first-ever Challenger Series win in Ericeira. After two disappointing results in Ballito and at the US Open of Surfing, Vaast got his CT qualification campaign back on track, with former CTer Joan Duru in his corner. The Tahitian’s calculated approach and lethal backhand in the pumping conditions proved too much for Australia’s George Pittar in the men’s Final, and Vaast will head to Brazil in the No. 1 spot on the rankings.

“I’m so happy to win this one,” said Vaast. “I’ve been dreaming of a Challenger Series win for a long time. I was surrounded by a really good team and good people. It was a war this one, I had to fight for it, but I felt like I had good heats from the start. Two finals in four competitions, I’m very happy. To win this with Tya as well, this is what we dream of. It was our objective, and we trained hard for it, surfing in the same contest we hoped it would happen. Thanks to our coach Joan Duru for everything!”

Vaast was quick to strike in the Final, opening his campaign with a 7.83 for a couple of massive backhand hacks. With the big swell and low tide, it all came down to wave selection, and Pittar was struggling to pick the right ones. Vaast was in rhythm with the ocean, and backed up his score with a decent 6.23, securing the win with a total of 14.06 (out of a possible 20).

India Robinson Enters The CT Qualification Chat

India Robinson’s
(AUS) Challenger Series win in Newcastle in 2023 propelled her onto the CT in 2024, but after falling off the tour and not requalifying, it’s been a tough start to the year. After two early round eliminations in the first half of the season, she’s finally turning her season around with a runner-up result in Portugal. Moving up a massive 19 spots on the rankings, she’ll head to Brazil knocking on the door of CT qualification.

“This is by far one of my favourite events,” said Robinson. “Coming into this event I wanted to have fun and enjoy it, but at the same time I definitely wanted to make some heats, because I haven’t done that so far this year. Coming second is bittersweet, but I’ll definitely take it.”

Robinson broke the hearts of Portugal’s surf fans lining the beach when she knocked out Yolanda Hopkins (POR) in the Semifinals. Hopkins was the best performing Portuguese in the competition, securing a third place and going to Brazil in the No. 2 spot on the rankings.

George Pittar Puts Up Statement Performance in Portugal

George Pittar (AUS) kicked into the next gear in Ericeira, locking in his second runner-up result for the year and moving up to No. 3 on the rankings. Coming into the event with just one solid keeper result, Pittar really needed to convert in Portugal. The former CTer has previously struggled to slot the puzzle pieces together at Ribeira d’Ilhas, but his analytical mindset helped him figure it out faster than the rest of the field, scoring the best waves and connecting the sections with power, flow and style throughout the week. Unfortunately he was out of rhythm in the Final, and had to settle for second once again.

“It’s bittersweet,” said Pittar. “I got second in Ballito and that really fired me up today to try and win here, but Kauli is such a good surfer. Right now I’m just frothing to be standing on the stage. Portugal is an amazing place, and we’ve had an incredible week with all our mates here.”

The next stop is the Saquarema Pro with a competition window from October 11-19, 2025.
