トロツキー氏の発言はtheyの代わりにthey、themの代わりにyouとなっています。
「彼らは戦争には関心ないが、戦争は彼らに関心があるのである」。
本来のyouは、1917年の革命後のロシア人一般を指すのでしょうが、ここでは、戦争には関心がないといっても、まわりがロシアに向けて戦争を仕掛けてくることを指摘したものです。それをtheyとthemで置き換えることによって、ここではヨーロッパの各国指導者たちを指すことが効果的に行われています。ヨーロッパの政治家たちは戦争に関心はないので、ウクライナを支援することはもうどうでも良いと発言するが、それがひいては、ロシアからヨーロッパ各国に戦争を仕掛けてくることに繋がると警告しているわけです。
ここで第12パラグラフは終了です。このパラグラフは、第1文がtopic sentenceで、第2文から第7文がそのsupportであると判断することができます。
そして、第11パラグラフの第1文をtopic sentenceとする、対応するsupport部分はここまでであると判断することができます。
これで今回の文章はすべて読み終えたことになります。
今回もパラグラフの構造を意識した読解が効果的であることが確かめられたようです。
今回の文章は、筆者が勝手に2025年を鍵となる年として、どうしてそのように言えるのかをほとんど説得せずに議論を進めている独善性が感じられるので、読んでいて今ひとつ納得がいきませんでした。
最後のトロツキーの引用も、とりわけ説得力があるわけではないので、多数派に抹消された人の良心的な発言の一つくらいの説得力しかありません。
