こういう老人を目指せという激励か？
An elderly man in the Atherton Tablelands had owned a large farm for several years. He had a large pond in the back. It was properly shaped for swimming, so he fixed it up nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some apple and peach trees.
アサートン・テイブルランドに住むある老人は、もう何年も大きな農場を所有していた。裏には大きな池もあり、これが水泳にもってこいの形だったため、彼はピクニックテーブルを置き、蹄鉄投げのコートを作り、リンゴや桃の木も植えて環境を整えた。
One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while, and look it over. He grabbed a twenty litre bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end.
ある日の夕方、老人は久しく行っていない池に出向き、様子を見ておこうと考えた。ついでにフルーツを持ち帰れるよう、容量20リットルのバケツを持つと彼は池へと向かったが、池に近付くと、はしゃいで叫ぶ声や笑い声が聞こえてきた。更に近付くと、彼の池で裸で泳いでいる若い女性の一団が見えた。彼がそこにいることを女性たちに分からせると、女性たちは奥の深い所へと移動した。
One of the women shouted to him, 'we're not coming out until you leave!'
The old man frowned, 'I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond naked.'
Holding the bucket up he said, 'I'm here to feed the crocodile...'
一人の女性が「あなたがいなくなるまで私たちは池から出ませんからね」と叫んだ。老人は不愉快そうな表情で、「私は君たちご婦人が裸で泳ぐのを見たり、君たちを裸のまま池から追い出すために来たんじゃないんだ」と伝えると、バケツを持ち上げ、こう言った、
「私はね、この池にいるワニに餌をやるために来たんだよ」

頭の回転の速い老人もいるものだ。
