A man died and went to Heaven.
一人の男が亡くなり、天国へとやってきた。
As he stood in front of the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, "What are all those clocks for?
天国の門の前に立つと、男は後ろに多くの時計が掛けられた巨大な壁があることに気付いた。「これらの時計はいったい何なんですか？」と男が訊ねる。
St. Peter answered, "Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone who has ever been on earth has a Lie-Clock. Every time you lie, the hands on your clock move.
聖ペテロが答える、「これらは嘘時計だ。地上にいた者は皆、この嘘時計を持っており、嘘を付く度に針が動くんだ。」
"Oh", said the man. "Whose clock is that?"
「そうなんだ」と男は驚き、「あれは誰の時計ですか？」と訊ねた。
"That's Mother Teresa's", replied St. Peter. "The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie."
「マザー・テレサのものだ」と聖ペテロは答え、「時計の針は一度も動いたことがない。彼女は嘘を付いたことがなかったんだ」と言った。
"Incredible", said the man. "And whose clock is that one?
「信じられない」と男は言うと、「じゃあ、あれは誰の時計ですか？」と訊ねた。
St. Peter responded, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that Abraham told only two lies in his entire life."
聖ペテロは「あれはアブラハム・リンカーンの時計だ。針は2度しか動いたことがない。アブラハムは長い人生で2度しか嘘を付かなかったということだ。」
"Where's Donald Trump's clock?" asked the man.
「では、ドナルド・トランプの時計はどこにあるんですか？」と男が聞いた。
St. Peter replied, "We're using it as a ceiling fan.
聖ペテロが答えて言う。「天井に取り付けてファンとして使っているよ。」
