There were many monkeys in a village. One day a merchant came to the village to buy these monkeys. He announced that he would buy the monkeys @ 100 rupees each. The villagers thought that this man is mad. They thought, how can somebody buy stray monkeys. Would anybody give 100 rupees for each of these useless monkeys? Nevertheless some people caught a few monkeys and gave them to this merchant and he gave them 100 rupees for each monkey. This news spread like wild fire and people caught monkeys and sold it to the monkey merchant.

After some days he announced that he would buy monkeys @ 200 rupees each. The villagers ran around to catch the remaining monkeys. They sold the remaining monkeys @200 rupees each. Then the merchant announced that he would buy monkeys @500 rupees each. The villagers did not lose any sleep. They caught the remaining six or seven monkeys, which were left and got 500 rupees each. The villagers were waiting anxiously for the next announcement. Then the merchant announced that he was going home for one week And when he returned. he would buy monkeys @ 1000 rupees each. He asked his employee to take care of the monkeys. The merchant went home.
