 『 the Missing Piece 』

- NO STORY SITS BY ITSELF -

For the 7th day of my training, we were grouped by pairs and asked to come up with a topic for an Advocacy Campaign speech activity. I was paired with the theater actor John whom I've never exchanged hi's and hello's from the very start of this training (so I was a little bothered on how am I going to work with him).

The other pairs came up with topics such as : Free Parking Tickets, Vanity Surgery, Sex Education For Elementary Students, Herbal Medicine over Synthetic Drugs and other sensible topics.

As for me and my partner?

Well, John came up with a genuine one sparkling with excrement. . . ours was. . .

"STOP CALLING TOILETS 右矢印JOHNs"

Yes, we were bold enough to come up with a nonsense topic which drew everyone's attention and tickled their funny bones. One of the audience even took us seriously that she even traced back the history of why some people in Britain call it "John" (i really didn't expect that coming).

we persuaded the listeners by sharing 4 important points:
右矢印Psychologically, its derogatory to the person named John to be associated with toilets.
右矢印Personally, it disenfranchise all the Johns in the words & automatically equates him to the word "toilet".
右矢印Socially, it discriminates a person who is named John.
右矢印Culturally, the Anglo-Saxons who spearheaded such propaganda is actually imposing Cultural Imperialism.

Well of course most of our tirade were just made up stories by me and partner to convince the listeners. To sum it all. What we just did and said was plain ()^#$^%&@$( We just want to be humorous in presenting our insane advocacy campaign with great stance and passion. But we were actually being dopes!
