最近NETFLIXで「運命の子供たち」を観始めました。2017年にTVで放映されていたドキュメンタリーです。ホリエモンさんが言ってましたが、世界ではドキュメンタリーがNETFLIXの人気コンテンツの一つなんですけど、日本では全く人気が無いと言っていました。国民性かなあ。
これは今でも残るカースト差別や貧困に苦しむ家庭の子供たちに教育を提供するというSHANTI BHAVANのチャレンジのドキュメンタリーです。全ての授業も教科書も英語で、英語で全てを学びます。子供なら3か月で英語を身に着けて教育の基盤が出来るようです。数年間英語を勉強していてろくに話せない僕って．．．（笑）
英語教育ではなくて英語での教育が世界に通用する人材を育てる方法かもしれませんね。
このドキュメンタリー、とても面白いのでお勧めです。まだ観終わってないけど。

I watch the TV series Daughters of Destiny on Netflix. It looks like this TV series broadcasted in 2017 originally. This documentary depicts the SHANTI BHAVAN Children's Project in India. SHANTI BHAVAN is a kind of education system that educate children who are discriminated againt poverty or caste. This documentary spotlights some girls and try to reveal the difficulties remained and a potencial of children. By the way, the purpose of SHANTI BHAVAN is 'We bring children from general poverty to a life of dignity and achievement.' It is beautiful, isn't it?

In India, most of the good schools, English is the medium of instructions. And English is the window to the world now. When they come here, in the first three months of preschool, children can pick up English. Most of the sibilings, they go to government schools, and their medium of instruction could be Kannada or Tamil or Telugu. For them, English starts only from fifth grade
As far as the caste system goes, it dates back thousands of years. And the people were divided into four groups: the Brahmins, Kshatriyas, the Vaishyas and the Shudras. And them below them came the Dalits, or so-called "utouchables." They considered them inferior and impure.
The constitution declares that the caste system does not exist in India, but it is in the most remote and rural areas, villages, that caste system tends to thrive, and it's still in place today.
I haven't finish to watch all episode yet. Some episodes impressed me, and I am curious what is happened next.
At the last Secret gathering, I said that it is hard to develop my English although I am studying everyday for past 6 years. There are a lot of English speakers as the second language or third language in the world, what is the difference among Japan and other countries? Yanagibashi-san and Himeko-san immediately responded that the difference is 'when to start studying English'. I don't want to accept that but it is true. SHANTI BHAVAN focus on English as foundation. Text books of all subjects are in English and children learn their own native language in English. In Japan as well, education curriculum by English language might be more important than English education.
Students in SHANTI BHAVAN speak English with unique 'Indian' accent, but it doesn't matter, they understand English completely. I am comfused. Grammar might be the most important element compared with accent, pronunciation, expressions, vocabulary, or so.
